Well, the three 3D cards I have used have been excellent. Firstly, old Leadtek 32MB GeForce 2 MX 400. Man, the first time I played HL with that! I just couldn't believe how smooth it was! Then moving to the upper echelons, about a year ago I got my 128MB MSI Ti 4200. This was probably the best value, considering it overclocked to near enough 300/600. Games looked great too. Now, this Radeon 9700 Pro is awesome. I still have a soft spot for my Nvidia cards though.
I have owned the following cards:
Riva TNT 16mb
GF2 GTS Ti 64mb
Kyro 2 64mb
ATI 8500LE 128mb
But now I have the Albatron GF4 Ti4600. Its is hands down my favorite because it was the first time I owned a card, new, when it was within the top 10% of cards. Now its not, but dammit, it was once there :)

the ATI Xpert@Play was great for me, because i was upgrading from a Diamond Viper card that ran on VLBus and didn't work with ANYTHING. then i switched to a voodoo 3 3000 AGP, and that was great too.
My favorite is my old Hercules 3D Prophet 2 GeForce 2 GTS. It was fast when I bought it, it overclocked well(220/420), and had a blue pcb with blue heatsinks.
9700 non-pro... best card i have ever bought.
my VooDoo3 I used it for over 3 years and it ran all my games fine, BattleField 1942 made me move on :(

i know what its like, last time i bought card that was the fastest one out there was my VooDoo3 3000 lol 5 weeks before the V3 3500 came out :p
I've only ever owned budget cards, because I don't game much (well.. Hereoes of M&M 4 and Simcity 3k), and a few car racing sims....
I loved my GF4 MX440; it brought AA to the poorer folk, with Quincunx. But then I really like my FX5200.. affordable DX9, and decent speed. Slow as all crap in 3DMark, but a huge boost in games.
If I had one, I'd say the Ti4200 though - awesome bang-for-buck on that card.
without a doubt my voodoo3 3000 was the sh!t back in the day.It came with a coupon for unreal tournament(1) and I sent it in and I was playing the game before the game was even released in the stores:p :p :p
my first card was a matrox mystique 4 meg card in 1998.I loved that one too.
ATI ALL in Wonder 9700. TV, video editing, games & decent price. Still can't afford it. I'll wait. I have Radeon 8500 64 megs serving me for 2 years.:) :)
That's gotta goto my Voodoo Graphics 4MB PCI. Playing 3D acclerated GLQuake at 30fps in 640x480 w/65536 colors was definetly a quantum leap from 20fps software mode in 320x240 w/256 colors :).
I was in heaven...until Quake2 came out  my framerates tanked after that.
Voodoo3 1000. Still runnin strong in my main piece, and still lets me kick the crap out of people in UT. When OC'd she definitely gives better perfromance too. :D
Without a doubt my Diamond Monster 3D Voodoo2 8 meg. That was my first 3D card and I believe I paid $300 for that sucker.
That was the biggest jump in performance and image quality ever. Going from software to hardware 3D showed me the biggest difference between cards I have ever seen. Sure there are cards that are much faster now but I don't see huge leaps like I did switching over to that Voodoo2.:)
