I'm a pretty big VGM fan, and have about 8 gigs of VGM, though i know some people who have like 200+ gigs worth of it. I couldnt pick a favorite, but here are some that rank high on my list: Actraiser Symphonic Suite, Game Music Grafitti, Final Fantasy V OST Final Fantasy VI Piano Collection, Final Fantasy VII OST, Final Fantasy X Piano Collection, F-zero Arranged, Zelda OoT: Hyrule Symphony, Super Smash Brothers Melee,...i'll just stop now. I love all my VGM soundtracks, here's the full list, i think . Also, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City probably has the best soundtrack in a game ever, but I wouldnt consider it VGM, and i don't compare regular music to VGM.
I've always wanted to have a 24/7 vgm shoutcast goin, but it's impossible to compete unless you have cash. Most people can run 128 kbps with 100 listeners. I can't compete with that =/, i still put mine up every once in a while, but no ones listens. I don't blame em. No room for the little guy.
If you like vgm, come on over to www.Slightlydark.com, as long as we're pluggin' ;)
However, 5th has Afronova Primeval and Moonlight Shadow.Quote:

But you're right, 6th is the ****. I just wish 8th had more good tracks besides Sakura :(
I still think the best game soundtrack ever was for the original Quake. I can't beleive no one else has suggested it yet.
Remember how scary and creepy it was to listen to while playing?
Maybe Trent Reznor has something to do with it :)
SoF II. Esp the jungle music in the mp maps. The rest I didn't have too much fondness for except the hotel and final shop track, but I'm commenting piecemeal. I liked a few of the tracks and the main screen for some reason. It was soft stuff but kinda deep.
Also, Andre Hofmann did a good job on the 1942 DC mod for the menu screen imo. Nice epic backdrop. I like that stuff. On the other side of the coin, the game load track between maps was a bit too hip and jolly for the whole combat theme. I was waiting for the soldier pic to start "pressin da air".
It was asked.
edit: oh and the victory screen track for the game, Desert Conflict? was pretty cool too. I forgot to mention that.
The Curse of Monkey Island. Also GTA: Vice City has some great music on their radiostations, and I was so happy that a few days ago I found a program on the net that let me convert the .adf files (the radiostations) to mp3 files! :)
Last Ninja 2 for the old C64 days
Vice City for now
Pretty much every Castlevania was awesome.
Any of you fans of the Castlevania music might want to check out a guy called Luca Turilli. He might be on mp3, not sure. Anyway, to my knowledge he has created about 20 tracks that sound like Castlevania music....love it :).
We're all forgetting one OST here.....Killer Instinct Killer Kuts :)
My favorite game soundtrack would probably be the original MechWarrior 2 (not Mercenaries). Very nice selection of music, and best of all you could just drop the disc in any old CD player and give a listen.
Planescape: Torment also bears mentioning, I think.
I liked Star Wars: TIE Fighter. Great game, and the soundtrack...well, it was star wars. And it got rid of that annoying midi sound from X-wing.
I'm also a big fan of the BG2 soundtrack, great music for whatever situation you're in.
i actually bought the 4 disk sound track to Final Fantasy VII :p
i also like it when you put half-life in a cd player and listen to the tracks on it
i usualy have a intrest in the music from the metal gears.
