I think im just going to get the monsoons. I've only heard them in a huge open store, but they sounded pretty good.
thanks for helping me out through all my indecisivness. I may pick up the 680s next summer though.
The Monsoon PM-14's paired with a Revolution card will sound excellent, you will not be disappointed. I installed this combo for a family member recently and get to hear it all the time, and the sound quality is superb.
In the Revo driver, turn off the crossover entirely, since the PM-14's have a built-in crossover. Turn off bass-management too, and select the "no processing" mode. Listen to .wav files ripped to hard disk with EAC at highest quality, using Winamp 2.91 with the kernel streaming plug-in. Very nice.
see now, you go through ALL THAT and then use Tinamp :pQuote:

dude, chicks hate that ****. I know because I tried it, they are always tring to sleep, and come biatching. Happened to me as well as two other guys on my floor.
I got some z560s, they are great. I jsut use the front 2 speakers though. But if you don't care about other people hearing the music, might I suggest a good pair of hear phones. Say some closes headphones from Seinnheiser (closed meing you can't hear what's out side).
This calls for the 212s. Haha, I am so for these bad boys now.
PinchyCM, I'm following your steps. Getting the HD212's next week and an Audigy 2. Can't wait.:D
ya, I got me a set of those already. its part of my dorm room survival kit.
What would work better Isezumi? I am very interested in learning more about all this stuff... what's wrong with WinAmp 2.91 with KS for playing .wav files? And why? :confused:Quote:

Edit: It sure sounds nice in the setup I described...

Foobar2000 with ASIO/Kernel streaming is supposed to be the best. I just hate the interface though.;)
yeah foobar is nice, too bad there isn't a linux port yet. I actually like of like the interface though.
Well, I just went over there, and tried listening to WinAmp 2.91 with the latest ASIO plugin. I *think* it sounds a little bit better than even the direct kernel streaming plugin does. This is through the analog out, of course.Quote:

Next I'll have to give a try to Foobar2000 with both ASIO and direct kernel streaming, to compare with WinAmp. Thanks for the tip!
Regarding playback of standard CD .wav rips with EAC (only .wav, no compression applied at all), I wonder why/how Foobar2000 could possibly sound any better, simply as a player, than WinAmp does? Aren't they functionally identical as pure players?
NP. Let us know your comparision with Foobar2000 and Winamp2.91 with plugins.:D
Anybody have a link about the PM-14's? I've never seen them. So in that case I say get the logitechs. Especially at a low price like that.
