These games are one reason I got my 120GB (despite my family encouraging me not to). I figured I should install as much of the game onto the hard drive as possible. I don't mind CD swapping; I can get over it.

I usually only play one game at a time for a long time, so i usually never have to swap cds.
I hate leaving CDs in the drive while I play a game. Generally when I buy a new game I can play on it for hours on end until I complete it ... and then can play on it for hours afterwards so I don't like to leave the CD in the drive. Why? Have you felt how hot they can get after being in the drive for prolonged periods of time!? They're hot to the touch, this can't be doing the media any good ... and I hate the periodic spinning of the drive for no apparent reason. I didn't spend stupids amounts of money on my system to keep it quiet only for the CD-ROM to be whinning away while I'm playing.
Well, now that I think about it...swapping out 1 cd sure beats the heck out of swapping about 12-15 5.25 floppies like back in the day.
Nothing compares today to loading a random encounter in Pool of Radiance where you swapped the disc 2-3 times and it took like 15 minutes to load up on a commodore 64, just to get yourself killed off and have to restart.
I remember the Commodore 64 days, waiting 30 minutes for a game to load and then it crashes out one you  God that was so annoying :mad:Quote:

30 mintues? Come on, it never took that long to load anything on the C64. I had over a thousands game for it too (including Carts and Floppies). But some games did require you to exchange Floppies, which is annoying as switching CDs. Again, isn't it great technology has come so far that we no longer have to swap out stuff because our hard drives are so large... oh wait.Quote:

I agree!!! Maybe you had the Tape drive for the C64???? I know those were much longer.. But my 5.25" 1541 drive would load a game within 7 minutes max!!!!
We were poor, we only had the tape deck :( Games took anywhere from 15 - 30 minutes to load depending on the game.
LOL, I had the tape drive too (luckily my father was a gadget geek, thanks DAD!) The slowest thing on the computer was the 300 baud modem, oh yeah BBS's beware! I'm such an old skool gamer, I went through almost 10 1-button joysticks for my C64.Quote:

Only 10???? I used so many Atari style controllers that were all broken.. Probably about 30 of them... I was very rough when I lose in a game... :D
Those 30 controllers were easily outdone when I got a SNES... I went through tons of those.. They didnt last to long when I swong the controller by the cable into my dresser :D
I hated the "color" dot matrix printer I had... It was considered colored cause the ribbon had 3 colors!!!!! So each line was a difference color.. Oh yeah... Just what I wanted!!!
I never had the modem... :)
well the only games i play regularly are desert combat and brood wars... since I have 2 disc drives... they both stay in there
i dont mind myself except when the game actually plays worse due to the piracy check (morrowind for example).. in that case, i believe its perfectly fine for someone to download a patch/hack
It's so silly that you have to have a unique cd to play most of these games online and yet they still require the disk to be in the drive. If I play a game a lot I get around it, not like you're doing anything wrong.
Well they are designed to have a laser shot into them constantly, so a little warmth isn't going to hurt them too much. I've never had a cd damaged due to heat. It shouldn't happen, unless you're stupid and set them on something that melts onto the cd I guess.Quote:

I myself use no-cd cracks, too many disks to change :o
