The Herc card would be nice, I wanted one too. But you can get an ATI 9800nP from Egg right now for $249. shipped, then do the BIOS flash to Pro. That saves ya $110.
On the other hand, Mushkin is having a deal on PC3200 CAS 2-2-2 512 sticks for $139./per + $6 ship = $284. If I'm not mistaken, those sticks have the same Winbond BH-5 chips as Corsair XMS PC3500, but only the Musky doesn't come with heat spreaders. Who needs 'em anyway - HS's on mem sticks are about as useless as tits on a bull, except they look nice. If you push the RAM hard to where it really needs cooling, do some RAMsinks later. They usually cool better than HS's anyway.
So let's say you add $6. ship to the Corsair just to be fair, so they = $252. Then the Mushkin/ATI combo saves you $72.-78. over the Corsair/Herc combo. Tho' the ATI card isn't as pretty as the Herc :(, after the BIOS flash you'd be = with the Herc's performance, and you'll still have better system RAM, IMHO.
If the guts are too ugly, just don't look at 'em til you can get a heatpipe for the GPU and spreaders/sinks for the RAM and make 'em pretty! ;)
Then get only 1 HD, a 2.6C or 2.4C, and a decent but less expensive case. That should get you in the -$300. ballpark.

Anyways, I agree with proxops-pete. If you're planning on getting an MCX4000, the 2.4c should be able to OC just fine. Also flashing the bios on the 9800np is such a deal you almost can't pass it up. :)

Well, I figured I can get this BH-5 stuff up to very near the Black Level II speed, and yet save about $140./pr of 512's.

the hercules card is great...i love the blue pcb and led, i have it at 400/350 right now...was stable at 420/350, but don't really need it that high, i also love all the heatsinks on it(they get warm too, so they're working). i know me supporting a high priced card doesn't help you, but it is a great card.:D
Definitely, looks count for something - with chicks AND with PC's I suppose! ;) Those 3D Prophet cards are all excellent cosmetically, and I've never seen anyone b*tch about their performance in their given class.

If you want, ThermalTake has some nice PSU at a very good price...
The 2.4c will almost/always hit 3.0Ghz (unless you get a crappy Philly or Costa chip).. So good luck on that...
But 3.2Ghz on a 2.4c that is Prime95 passable, is a little more difficult...
You can always go with a classic :) The Antec 1080AMG, it already comes with a 431w Antec PSU and it is sexy!!! :)

the video card:
SAPPHIRE OEM RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB DVI/TV 8X AGP BULK
Its a 9800 Pro, but 1) There is no external power connector, 2) it is very short for a 9800 Pro card. ***, is this one of those situations where Newegg posted wrong specs/pics?
I looked at that video card before.. IT had an external power connector, but not the usual 9800Pro style, but the older 9700pro style :)

I was thinking about two of the seagates in a striped array, but I decided that the massive 240GB of storage space did not make up for the fact that RAID 0 was unstable in the sense that if you got one bad sector on one drive, your whole partition is down.
