Really? I was under the impression the 9000 was a bit faster. Damn marketing!
Yeah it's so true. ATi has really messed up thier numbering. 9000<8500, 9600<9500, 9200<9100 in terms of performance.
I think I am gonna go throw up now.
Hopefull ythey start newe with the 1000. maybe they will make it a newseries, that Radeon 2 or something.
The R200 architecture uses DirectX 8.1. The main difference between DX 8.0 and 8.1 is that 8.1 supports a higher pixel shader version (1.4). Theoretically, if the Radeon 9000 had the equal stock-performance of a Ti4400, the Radeon 9000 would be faster due to it requiring fewer rendering passes for it's pixel shading.Quote:

However, the Ti4400 is generally significantly faster graphics card than the Radeon 9000, so it should easily compensate for a slight lack of pixel shading robustness. In Anandtech's Half-Life 2 preview the Ti4600 was a pretty decent performer, sometimes even matching GeForce FX 5900 Ultra performance, although it would be at a lower quality setting (i.e. DX8.0 compared to DX8.1/9.0 mixed mode).
Shouldn't that read..Quote:

ATI's numbering scheme is confusing only if you think it's the standard higher is better. The first number is it's dx version, so even if it's a dx9 card it could still be slower than a fast dx8 card.
Wrong, the 9X00 series of cards doesn´t mean they are all DX9 cards, only the 9500+ are DX9... well, you helped prove that it IS confusing nonetheless :DQuote:

Peace.
Indeed, too confusing for most of the buyers out there who think that that R9000 they're getting's a gid upgrade from thier R8500.;)
the 9200 should have been canned altogether and replaced by the 9600, 9100 == 8500 (= useless), 9000 might have been called 8400, but who am i?
BS much like GF 4 MX.
