Well, an update for those interested...
It's been confirmed that in our area approx 50% of industry are leaving Toshiba this year. Most are blaming ONE person at Toshiba (no names given). I'd hate to be that person. I'm tipping thats about 4-5k units per year, though probably more. Just in one state of Australia. I've been speaking to project managers, and other IT managers in other industries throughout Australia, and they're all leaving Toshiba in droves. Again, many are naming that one individual. Again, I'd hate to be that person.
Toshiba will probably pick up again in Aus, but not before they loose 10... 20.. maybe even 30% of their entire corporate customer base. Maybe none of this relates to US customers, but I'm sure many of you are interested in how they are travelling over here. A loss of this magnitutude will probably be felt across the pacific, I'd be thinking - unless the problem is arrested quickly, and their is no sign yet of that happening.
Oh - and most of those in our industry are going over to Fujitsu, some to Acer. Fujitsu never had much of a presence in Aus until 12-18 months ago, but that's changing. Curious how quickly things move.
400 u/y is a lot of units, but not enough to get you any special consideration. You might want to see what you can get from someone other than the big four. An un-named government div. got 24 hour swap out service on a 50 system order from a small manufacturer. It breaks, it goes back. The first few replacements will be new units, but they will ship the repaired units as replacements once the have some to repair. They also beat one of the big four by $250 a unit on the price.
i have always liked sager and asus for quality and support
but toshiba is pretty bad with post sale support!
