It looks like a carbon copy of about 5 other racing games out now.
It may LOOK like it, but how many racers out there let you mess around with nearly every single aspect of your Car, not to mention all the different leauges, the boatload of cars in it (about 190 in GT3), the insane physics behind it, and of course, the absolutely GORGEOUS visuals (considering how this was a first release game for the PS2, it's just mindblowing as to how purty it is). Already after playing it for about 3 months straight, I'm not even 20% done with it. It's just so DEEP of a game.Quote:

Dude... nearly all 60's Stingrays HAVE a 427 Engine in them :p Hell, even the newest Corvettes have the relatively old Z06 engines (which have been around since the 70's(?)... I believe)Quote:

actually I just picked up a ps2 from a friend...when he gets here in the next 1-2 months then I'll have it...bought it for $275...comes with 4 games (Simpsons road rage, Resident Evil, Max Payne, The Getaway) 2 controllers and 2 memory cards and of course the system itself along with all the cables...it was against my religion to buy a console but after seeing how my 2 other brothers has a ps2 and madden 2004 and play against each other...along with another brother who may get a ps2 + madden 2004...it'd be cool to get a 4 way tourney going...sorry for the ot stuff but I could care less about racing sims...they just bore me way too much...unless it's something like twisted metal and you get to shoot + detroy stuff...

Just because pre-catalyst cars were AVAILABLE with insanely powerful engines doesn't mean they sold in huge numbers. Big-block 'Vettes aren't too common (although they're more common now, since they were more worth saving). The Corvette Z06 is the one and only home of the LS6 (a reworked version of the LS1, GM's Gen-III small-block V8).Quote:

edit: oops, forgot the point of my LS1 comment. The LS1 debuted with the 4.5-gen F-bodies and GM's GMT800 full size trucks in the late 90's. The LS6 was introduced in 2001 with the C5 Z06. end edit.
Besides, no chevy V8 can hold a candle to the elephant. mopar muscle, baby. :D
More on-topic...I may be an xbox fanboy, but with the GTA franchise headed to the dark side on 04 November, the PS2 really is dead. Halo is the best shooter ever ('cept maybe Wolf3D ;) ) and a true killer app. PS2's graphics are pathetic and the xbox hard drive is great.
Most importantly: video games are at their peak when played with/against real people, and xbox is years ahead of the competition in that respect.

Halo is a fine game... but truly its the only game on my xbox I play, and now that I got it on my PC I have no reason to go back to the xbox, however, I am always playing my PS2. Infact I am going thru GT3 again, this time I am going to see if I can beat it with out buying a single car
( So far I'm doing pretty well, I got my first car from getting all Golds in the B licese. )

Hey, WildWeasel, have you actually played any games on PS2? If you have you'd realize that the games on PS2 are far superior to anything on the XBox. Believe it or not, the GTA series is overhyped, and nobody will care about GTA3 and VC when they come out on XBox because everyone who wanted either one already has it on PS2 or PC. And dont bring up the crap about multi-platform games being best on XBox because thats untrue; they're just prettier. Plus, one game, NFS HP2, is better on PS2.
While we're at it, lets talk about graphics! Do you really value pretty graphics in an average game over average graphics in a really good game?
And finally, lets cover Halo. I played Halo. I played through the single-player on PC, and I've played plenty of multiplayer with my friends on the XBox when it first came out. The graphics are very good, and the game is pretty fun, but poor AI and repetitive gameplay and level design holds it back. Multiplayer gets boring pretty quickly, too, and it is easily shadowed by Timesplitters 2.
PS2 doesn't suck. In fact, Sony was very good about being first to market. i've played PS2 quite a bit, mostly because it came first.
i don't think anyone can argue with the fact that Xbox's entry price buys much better hardware. way better graphics, HDTV support, Dolby 5.1, built-in NIC, hard drive, four controller ports, and (granted, for $30) a REAL dvd player with remote. though it's purely preference, and all controllers are okay now that the N64 is gone, i also think xbox's controller S is the best (the regular controller is more comfortable, but i hate the face button layout).
as far as games, multiplatformers are always a mixed bag. EA makes their stuff either the same or with a PS2 tilt. most others will make all pretty much the same, but use a little of the xbox's power (higher res textures, dolby 5.1, etc). in all, it's a wash. (by the way, time splitters 2 is available on xbox.)
as far as single-platform games, i think nintendo and MS both have sony beaten. I may not love nintendo's exclusive content, but it has a HUGE following. It's hard to argue with the selling power of Hyrule and the Mushroom Kingdom. MS has some amazing first party games, even though most were launch titles (i.e. Halo and PGR), but it's real lead over sony is LIVE. downloadable content is pretty sweet, but it's more of a fringe benefit. online multiplayer is the future, cliche and all, and xbox is the king of online consoles for now.
that's my little bit of fact/propoganda for now, i'm sure there'll soon be more for me to respond to...
