Another thing Sony is banking on is that the PS3 will be backwards compatible even with the PSX.

I think one of the greatest things about Sony is that they allow you to play your older games on the newer systems, for me anyway. I just think its really cool, and it lets you sell or trade in your old system toward the purchase of a new one. It's convient to be able to play all your FF games on one system. They also keep the controller relatively the same. This makes upgrading easy, and helps to justify the price of a new console every couple years. I still don't think it's justified though, but at least Sony tries.
The console that needs help in the game department is Gamecube. Nintendo desperatly needs some good games.
Mario Kart Double Dash is the only big Holiday game, and it's getting lackluster reviews, while good reviews I expected better.
If I were to plop down money on a console today it would be an XBOX, two free games (while not the best games, there free) and I would buy an XBOX Live starter kit with Mechassault (a great game) for free with the kit.
Project Gotham Racing 2, Ninja Gaiden, GTA 3 and Vice City double pack, Top Spin, Grabbed By The Ghoulies, Crimson Skies high road to revenge, the ESPN Sports games online.
The XBOX is doing quite well.
Unfortunatly I love Nintendo, and Nintendo games in general, but Nintendo is digging themselves into a grave. All of there great games besides Vietiful Joe, are just rehashes of past games, that do nothing new.
I bought GC just for Viewtiful Joe...
I bought an Xbox just for Halo, but just because a system has one cool game doesn't make it worth while. But then again I'd rather have quality over quantity. I used to have 17 PS2 games, now I have 3, and my Xbox collection keeps growning. I'd like a Cube, but I don't see any reason to buy one besides it's cheap and I like Resident Evil. Besides, if any game comes out on all three platforms I'm buying the Xbox version.
Can't wait for NFS: Underground :D
