OK, the comparison between Tribes and UT are a little off imo. Tribes is a team above everything else, if you don't work as a team nothing works, it's best played with veterans with voice communication and when everyone knows what they are doing, it is definitely not newbie friendly. As a result, it's not all that popular outside of hardcore players and clanners.
UT variants on the other hand, have a much looser sense of teamwork. There are no static defenses to install or repair, no vehicle stations to repair, generators to defend, different armor classes, etc. UT has a lot less depth, but that is a good thing in this case as you can easily jump right in and start fragging away. CTF is pretty simple, run at the flag, get flag or guard the guy with the flag or defend your own flag. You don't have to worry about being the right class for any of the jobs, it's much simpler and easier. That's why I see UT and Tribes as still being very, very different games, even after UT adds vehicles.
Well they are both FPS's, it's just that Tribes does a better job at it then UT does. I could play Tribes for days on end without getting bored, but UT only took me 5 minutes before I didn't want to play anymore.
