The velvet was just to add a little different flair to the case, as well as give me a way to hide cables! I did give some thought to mirroring the bottom, but I liked the blue/wavey effect in the end that the velvet gave me.Quote:

But why the velvet? I too was going to ask what the cloth material on the bottom is and why did you use that?
I personally like the little mirror people place on the bottom of the case. It adds a nice reflective surface for the lights to reflect upon.
So what was wrong with the other pictures? What are you not happy about in this one?
I love the other pics in this thread, but all of the pic that I took of the rig with it's side off always show me a couple of *dings* that I have not repaied, and my eye always goes there...
:)
WOW!!! Amazing. Congrats on getting this running. A damn fine modded case. Good job!;)
With etching little channels to duct the light, and using individual LED's, would it be possible to create a rainbow effect that didn't blend everything together too much (6 different colors)? I've never worked with individual LED's, so is there any advice in using them?
I'm thinking about doing a Dark Side of the Moon etch in mine sometime, and I don't wanna put the money into it if it won't turn out well.
Wow that a sweet looking pc! Very well done. I just wish I had some of that talent with my pc.
What you would probably want to experiment with are individual "lanes" of acrylic. Each "lane" would be exclusive to a color LED. Simple etching is not enough to keep LED's light contained like what you are wanting to do. Best thing you could do would be to (I'm thinking here...) create individual acrylic arches for each color you are wanting to do, place a corresponding colored LED on the begining and end points of the "color lane" of hte rainbow. Make sure that the acrylic has been sanded at least on one side (this gives the light from the LED something to bounce off of and be redirected into the viewer's eyes...).Quote:

That would be how I would start experimenting with the rainbow build if it were me.
Zy, thanks for the kind words! Dont ever think that you can't make a PC like this. All it takes is a little bit of planning and a good idea. That is all! (Oh yeah, and a little bit of $$$! ;) )
Thanks for the advice, that seems to make more sense than what I was thinking, but much more difficult for me to do.Quote:

But just to clarify I'm thinking the cd cover of Dark Side of the Moon, so no arches involved.
Ahhhh... the prism break out of the light beam.
Ok, now I see where you are going....
Cool....
What about doing it for real? Use a white LED firing into a stationary prism (the prism and the light source will be secured...) and then put a stratiegicaly placed piece of sanded acrylic (to reflect the light bands out).
I'm quite sure they sell those prisms online, or @ crystal shops.
Would that work?
Totally tubular.
That thought had crossed my mind, but I wasn't sure how I was going to secure the prism to the case so that A) I wouldn't be able to see the securing device and B) I could still have the prism effect show up on the window (not just the edge). The sanded/grooved/strips of acrylic would solve B I think. I'm gonna have to think this one out a little more though, I really want to do it.Quote:

Depending on the weight of the prism, you might be able to get away with a PCI slot spacer that is either rivited or epoxied to the internal side of your case.
having a rigid extension out from the back of your case would not be so bad, as long as it was painted to camoflauge with the background. Think 2D like paper, turned one way, the paper is visible, look at it's edge, and you cant see it.
You could also get a clear acrylic rod or a tube, and fuse that to the prism.
There are lots of ways that you could suspend the item. Just make sure that the supports are X-Y-Z supported. IOW, if you just had it on a pedistal, if you tipped the unit on it's side for shipping, it will flex the pedistal and possibly break it's adhesion point.
Definately a little bit of designing to do and experiment with.
Gotta give you props again Tech Daddy for this incredible mod. Way to go. You deserve all the positive recognition you may get for the thing, that is for sure. https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2006/07/3.gif
Man I appreciate that, thank you very much!Quote:

:D
Just to note, sorry if I seemed to hijack this thread. Didn't intend to. That was one amazing mod and it finished off my inspiration to do my next mod.Quote:

No problem there bro!
I did not take it as a hijack!
I want to help in any way I can, so feel free to ask! If I have experiences that might assist you, I'll offer them up as quickly as I can!
Good luck on your mod!
