Wow man! Wow.. I didn't think I'd every find anyone else here more hardcore outdated than my self.
Update: I have everything but an OS and a heatsink. All the other new hardware is very pretty though, especially the X1800XL! It's a really heafty card compaired to my old postage stand heatsink Radeon 64. (And Ruby kinda kicks ***:o) I'm a little skeptical about the memory cooling though, looks like it has really thick thermal tape connecting it to the heatsink..
I feel the same age as my old comouter! My XP-90c was here waiting for me when I came home today, and it's completely glorious! I'm in the proccess of building the system now. I'll have to go eat dinner now with the family though, Grr! :D
I sure I hope I did the AC5 right. A little bead slightly larger than a grain of rice (maybe two grains for me, uncooked dpending on the type...) Twist the HS around some and camp it down without peeling it up to look. I also sure hope the nail polish I used was ok, I'm not sure how pure it was, or how much acetone it had, but it seemed to do ok when I wiped it off with a soft cloth. (Clean boxers  ) I put the RAM in first so it would be possible, and next I'll drop the mobo into the case after dinner. Am I missing anything?
Right, well that's enough screaming children for one night, now it's back to building. I'll have to shut down this old piece to strip out the sound card. Hopefully I'll be posting soon from the new system.
So I ran into a slight snag. Since I had decided that the overhang on the HSF would benefit the memory, the fan and its duct didn't line up with the vent on the case. After getting some quick advice on reapplying AS from ImaNihilist, I rotated the HSF 90 degrees. Now it fits the vent, but is on the very edge of the other side. The door now opens and closes, with the end of the duct perfectly going over the fan. To steal the words right out of my supervisor's mouth, "It's absolutely sexual!"
I'm really glad I hafd to reapply actually, as I was comforted to see the AS5 smeared across the entire CPU. I had infact used a touch too much. They really aren't kidding about using a dab about the size of an uncooked grain of rice. Not one of the long grains either.
I'm on the new system now. It's pretty sweet and stuff. The XP-90c and AS5 seem to be doing their job, the system is idling at 24c right now.
i'm having toruble with the ATI control pannel, or Catalyst controll center if that's what it's called now. It produces an error and won't run, so I can't configure 3D settings....
