How can you bash on EQ? The game didnt make the game, the people did. Just like any online game. I loved the player base and miss the "old times."

To the original poster, I would be curious, with all of the hatred being sent to the "overrated" games, which games would you consider to be "rated just right"?
Yes, I would very well ike to know your taste in games too. I'm guessing he's an RTS player or a very hardcore RPG player.Quote:

I disagree with Xenogears and EQ. Two games I enjoyed highly, and not because some reviewer told me to like it, or because it was the thing to play. In fact, I don't even think I read a review on Xenogears when I made the purchase. It was one of the gifts I got for Christmas from my parents. And seriously, there's not even that many anime scenes in the game to really justify that as a selling point. The ones they do have, they're all pretty short.
Probaly the biggest selling point for me was the music in Xenogears. I've been a musician for most of my life, so it's not just the graphics and gameplay that tilt my opinion. Music is probaly the main reason I play RPG games... followed closely by gameplay.
But yeah, I realize this is all opinionated. If I was to add to the list, I'd add Halo. :D
Yes, it got released, and was mercilessly bashed by any and all who played it. Saying that it is overrated is like saying that eating your own feces is overrated.Quote:

With real ads for the game like "John Romero is going to make you his b*tch" and similar.
When a game has THAT kind of advertising, basically saying your game will be so good you're insulting your game buying audience, they are going to expect a masterpeice (and I think rightfully so), and as well know, it was thoroughly average at best.
That's a perfect example of hype going way too far overboard, but at least Romero caught it in the butt from gamers and to this day has never lived it down.
Pre-release, yes, it was massively overhyped/overrated. This thread being about games post release, though, I didn't think Daikatana fit.
Too funny!Quote:

Ridiculous.

Yes.
I am pathetic.
This is an interesting, and HARD thread.
Its hard to call any game that has legions of dedicated followers "overrated".
But then again, you watch some of the garbage that comes out of Hollywood and what kind of money it makes, and some of the points that people are making here start sounding good.
Personally, I have never cared much for RTS games.
I miss the day when turn based games ruled the strategy genre.
For me, I'd call the whole RTS genre "overrated".
I think it is funny that if some one did not care for a game because of personal preference they say it is overrated. Perhaps it is just not your style?
Final Fantasy 7 :o
Yes. I never understood what's so great about it.Quote:

Either way, though, it can still be very interesting to see how people view the games they do not look.
