I'm pretty happy with my leadtek card but that's pretty horrible
That sucks. They have any affiliation with VisionTek? I've had bad experience with visiontek in the past, long time ago i sent in a $30 rebate form and never got it. Always emailed them and never got a reply at all. That was when i bought my Geforce 3 ti200, so it was pretty long ago. Rebates are generally easier these days, still a pretty big hassle, but most are trackable now =p
This is why I count myself lucky I RMA through dealers. They always get it back within the month in perfect condition.
My former Leadtek GF4 Ti4200 lasted me several years without any problems. Of course, I never head to deal with their RMA service.
I've had to rma my 5900 to xfx, twice, not a single problem. After listening to the op's story, I can honestly say I'm not gonna buy leadtek.
That's a really bad situation you got yourself there. Fortunately, I no longer use their products. I stopped with the ti4200 that went bad on me.
Strange thing though, I actually dealt with their tech suppot for the ti4200 card and it was painless. Granted, I was able to walk into their hq here in Fremont, CA and they replaced the card right then and there. (Still had to get an RMA number through their tech support)
I hope everything works out for you.
same reason I don't buy MSI cards, they don't RMA them unless the card you are RMA'ing is still actively being manufactured, i.r if you want to RMA your 6 month old 7600gt and they quit making them, too bad.
Thanks for the headsup OP and Vairox. I'll be buying neither Leadtek OR MSI.
I'm sorry you had that kinda grief. I guess it's now my turn.
I purchased a Leadtek 6800GT late 2004 from Newegg.com which lasted 8 months before crapping out. Newegg RMA'd it without a glitch but 10 months later the second 6800GT went belly up also. I was in process of leaving US for a bit ( 6 months) so I did not get a chance to RMA it back to Newegg so when I returned I contacted John Zhang @ Leadtek on 8/13/06 and he truly does sound like an Indian. I could barely understand him.
I informed him this will be my second RMA on this brand of card since these cards seem to have a 9 month avg life expectancy (sp?) and it costs me $12 to ship this defective equipment to them every time. It sounded like he didn't really care so let's see what happens here.
This will be my last Leadtek card.
