A good mouse and keyboard.
For keyboard, get a Cherry keyboard with mechanical switches.
For mouse, go with a high-DPI optical mouse, like a Logitech MX510 (you could go higher to an MX518 or G5, but the boss would probably shun that).

Mot important is a good chair that is fully adjustable so it will fit your body correctly.
Maybe combine a few ideas, and ask for a fully adjustable hot secretary / stripper that will fit your body correctly? :)Quote:

I see someone said Paper Shredder, but make sure you get one that shreds CD and Credit Cards too. One Flash drive is never enough! Rubber bands, Paper clips, Blank CD/DVD's. Docking Station for your Laptop, 19" Widescreen LCD, Mouse & Keyboard. I'm always more comfortable having my own mouse that I can carry with me when working on other computers in other offices (I love my Logitech VX Revolution). A Computer tool kit. A Printer of some type, preferably a color laser printer. Fax machine or maybe an All-In-One (Laser printer, Fax, Scanner, Copier etc...) Paper for the printer. Any software that you may need to help fix computers (anti-virus, Spam control, spyware cleaners, driver cleaners, partition software etc…). I could keep going, but this will give you a few more Ideas.
definitely agree that your own printer/scanner is really nice
don't forget these items:
-buck sheets (sheets that say "from the desk of ___") that you can use to leave notes for people - much more professional than a yellow post-it note
-book ends / magazine style holder so you can keep a set of working files, books, or magazines on your desk within reach, but organized
having some conspicuously-displayed IT books will make you look more like you know what you're doing
-nice pen/accessories holder (if you go to the Container Store they have really nice ones)
-utilitarian LCD monitor stand that allows you to store things under it -- maybe even one with some tiny drawers
-wireless mouse and keyboard with battery charger
get a battery charger so you can use rechargeable batteries in the keyboard
And this has nothing to do with the office, but make sure they give you a Blackberry / Smartphone. Nothing says "Look Ma! I'm a bigshot now!" quite like sending her an email to that effect while you're sitting on the can.
ahah kent!
and make sure it has a signature like: "---sent from my Blackberry wireless--"
You need a large painting of yourself to hang on the wall right behind you.
A good chair and a good stapler, if you're going to deal with paper often. My stapler sucks.
How about a large talking mirror like in Popular Mechanics? You can have a different "painting" everyday and it will give you compliments to boot.Quote:
