CAT 5e will only transfer at 10 mb/s

Maybe the installer used regular staples and pinched and broken the insulation on the cable as well :P

I have probably 15000 feet or so of it at work, we used it to install the speaker boxes on the wall for each door (corrections institution). The guy before me ordered WAY too much!

I have had this and found some idiot wired all the wires straight and it would deteroirate the longer the run.

so they did

1 orange
2 orange /w
3, green
4, green /w
5, blue
6, blue /w
7, brown
8 brown /w

So it only worked at 10mb and he used a cheap *** tester too.

I rewired to

1, OW
2, O
3, GW
4, Blue
5, BW
6, Green
7, BW
8, Brown

and it works fine or did the company i did that moved premisses a few months later, I got the job to wire that one up :)

The electrician came back while I was at work (only my g/f was there to watch and she knows little to nothing about computers). I know he was there for about an hour and didn't run any new lines. All he did was rewire the ethernet jacks and put new ends on the lines in the basement. He left me a note saying it was now wired to the 568-A standard and works fine.

I came home. I checked each line with a laptop and they all work perfectly fine at 100MB Full Duplex now. You would think an electrician would know better... oh well.

Everything is up and running and I'm happy now.

I knew it damn electricians, so he wired to 568-A well what was he hoping to gain from his last wiring attempt? or he didnt know and asked someone..

ask your G/F if he kept reading from a bit of paper that would suggest he had the answer given to him and he wrote it down..

In my experience, most electricians are pretty good with systems designed for 120-240 V AC at 50-60 Hz, but many don't know a whole lot about wiring for signals that run at many MHz or GHz.
