I don't think I've ever compared file sizes on anything.

But yeah, a toggle should be easy, whether official or through the command line.

Kilo means 1000 in everything else in life except computers, where it means 1024. It's base-2 that's the problem here, not base-10.

About the only place this is a problem is the fact that Windows and *nix haven't done it yet, so file sizes will appear different when you're transferring files.

edit: As a matter of fact, if Apple does allow you to change between base-10 and base-2 I certainly hope they follow standards and make sure base-2 says KiB and MiB so that you know which mode you're in.

It will be a massive PITA in the printing world...ya you and I know how to convert b10 to b2 and back...but graphic artists dont, and neither do the ancient printers most of them use and the custom conversion programs I've had to write to keep the things humming..

I think I'll recommend most of my printer clients skip this update, which is convenient cuz they are the only ones using macs lol

I actually need to talk to IT about this and make sure that we DON'T upgrade until this problem is resolved. It's just a nightmare for a mixed PC/Mac environment.

As soon as everyone knows what the Terminal is, where the Teriminal application is, how to navigate, and how to get file information... then you've got something.

Maybe that's what you teach in classes over there, but here in the good ole' USA, we don't even know how to use computers.

Apparently it can be done now. I'm in the process of imaging my DVD to a thumb drive so I can run NetbookBootMaker on it.

Exposé isn't as good as it was in 10.5 IMO. Now, it scales all windows to the same size. Relative window size really helped me find the one I was looking for in no time :(

That's disappointing.

Freaking thumb drive won't boot my netbook so I can't get 10.6 installed. Not sure what's up with it. Tried restoring the image a half dozen times. Tried booting with NetbookBootMaker on the image, tried booting with my old syslinux USB and then straight into 10.6, nothing either way. Everyone else seems to be getting it working so I don't know what the problem is.

I'm somewhat curious if my 16G flash drive just won't boot. My 4GB Cruzer does, but my 16G just sits at a black screen with the cursor flashing. I guess I'll try sticking syslinux on the 16GB stick and see if it boots at all.

Also iTunes 9 is a step backwards in almost every way... hurrrrr lets just keep on adding features that nobody cares about.

its a damn music player. keep it simple. itunes was the greatest around v6-v7. they need to pull a win7/osx10.6 on it: focus on the essence and make that greater.

Well, I've always liked the new grid view. I haven't bought them, but the digital LPs seem like a neat idea.

until you realize that you're paying almost 20 dollars for bonus content you'll rarely if ever use. we've had these before, they were called digipack cds. they died a deserved death.
