Sorry to hear that Boogs.
Here is another slightly more "informational" list of the best mobo's for all your needs.
SDR Mobo's:
1) $70 (newegg) ECS K7S5A -SiS 735 chipset (fastest mobo out there, BEST bang for your buck)
2) ~$100 EpoX 8KTA3 (use this if you want o/c)
DDR Mobo's:
1) $70 ECS K7S5A -supports pc1600 and pc2100
2) $125 EpoX 8K7A (most stable, most o/c'able (180fsb+), newest bios will support MP chips)
Well actaully after looking at the list, I realized the choices are slim. https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/6.gif
But those are the best deals out there, nothing else even comes close buddy.

Sorry to hear that. Always wondered if they were really THAT GOOD.
Back in 94 I finally decided to buy a PC. I got this super 486 w bells and whistles. Didn't have to wait to get it though. I could never do anything without it freezing up (IO, not all the time).
Their tech support was a 1-800 in which you get a message of how busy they were and then it would HANG UP.
I gave up trying w them. Boy could they contact me when their frigen warrenty was up and they wanted me to extend. BITE ME.
In the process of this battle w them, COMPUTERSHOPPER (where I saw them and ordered) had a poll about brands. Out of 26 companies, mine came in 2nd to last. They no longer exist https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif
Leave it to Yiggdrassil Linux's installer to find my problem. The idiots had configured the jumper settings incorrectly on my SCSI card (Interrupt - Trailing or leading edge - Leading).

This is the one I think I'll go with. I'm having a hard time finding sellers though, so if you know any sites, preferably with cpu combos, let me know.Quote:

Well I'm ordering 2 of them tomorrow from newegg, you should try there.
But I know 1st Class Technology has it for $70 also, and they have a lot of combo's. Check them out! https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif

Unless you want a notebook computer build it yourself. Although my last computer i bought from Dell was around Christmas and it worked great, haven't had any problems yet!
But I did have to send back a brand new Notebook this morning (and Insprion 8000 p3-1gh) Only 5 days old because the mobo went. Oh well I guess it's the luck of the draw when you buy from brand name.

I feel for you man. I was going to get an alien ware but then read the customer comments on cnet.com, I believe-or was it pcmagazine.com? Well they reviewed a system on their site and it was perfect (good reviews-as you said in your orig. post-but of COURSE its going to be fine-Alienware probably has an entirely different f*cking team to put together the machines that go to reviewers :rolleyes https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif. I read a couple reviews of people who had bad experiences with crazy things like alienware putting some sort of hardware grease "everywhere" and the recipiant of the system having to take the time to clean it off of things like the video card. It was a fairly convincing post to say the least and I thank God I build my own system (even if it does run a tad hot https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/6.gif). I am glad you are on the course to getting that system up and running asap though and I'm sure the people here in these forums can easily help you out with the motherboard. Good luck.

In regards to the court battle-he would easily lose to this corporation from a legal standpoint-the product "worked"-doesn't matter how long!-when they replaced the mobo-then died (they could just say, "for whatever reason unknown to AlienWare Corp.") after the warranty LEGALLY expired-I'm not saying this is right, and I would be just as angry if not more so. . .but it's experiences like that which will teach you valuable lessons in life, yes? (imo alienware relies on looks and some sort of "gamer's edge performance" slogan that just insn't there, as far as reliability goes, Dell is still on top but supposedly not as much as they once were).Quote:

At the beginning I had the same problems as you BoogyMan: sucky tech support, sucky customer support.
I finally got my system hooked up and I went to burn a cd with my new Plextor 16x that came with the pc and the damn thing wouldn't open. I was so pissed at that point I didn't even trouble shoot it before I called tech support.
I had waited 3 months for the system, that supposedly went through strict Q/A testing and the CD-r didn't work (YOU know I was mad).
I get on the phone with this guy and he sounds like he is a broken recording "you need to install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers". I would say why? he in turn would tell me "you need to install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers" this went on for 20 min or so. I finally got off the phone because Joe **** the rag man wasn't helping. I cracked the case and low and behold the CD-R wasn't even hooked up. Good Q/A Alienware, and on top of that I didn't get a recovery cd or a master cd. I bought an Alienware because of the reviews, I don't have the time to build a system and I'm an American in a foreign country that taxes all imports at 21%. I will never buy an Alienware again and I hope who ever is reading this wont either.
wow...that really sucks. My best friend has an alienware from the old days (back when a PII 333 was a screamer) and has had no problems... I was thinking of getting a gaming rig for my cousin, but I guess I will just build it myself and save him the hassles.
Hope everything works out for the best, and thanks for the info!

That's BS, All computers come with tech support & manuals. Sheesh, they're just money hungry bastards wanting to rip people off. I'll take a Dell or Gateway over them any day!!(Or i'll just build my own like the one i have now)Quote:

I think you're making a mountain out of a mole hill. First you complain about lack of updates on the phase system at the alienware main website..But you still got your system in 27 days didn't you? And isn't that what they say? In about 30 days? Here you make it sound like you were supposed to get it in 5 and received nothing.
As for the motherboard trouble, i think Alienware was more than hospitable, sending the parts out with no questions asked, they have the option to buy a longer warranty should you so choose, it's not their fault you didn't op to buy it.
Anyone who was planning to buy an alienware and decided not to should NOT use this post to change their mind, this is practically a one in a thousand case.

Do you work for Alienware?
I got my system in FORTY-TWO days. It was build hastily and sloppily, and it didn't even last ONE year. If you find this an acceptable lifespan for a $2800 machine, by all means buy one.
I'm sure they'll love to replace it next year for you.
I really want to know how my post is 'overreacting' DJ...enlighten me.

3 words, better business bureau www.bbb.com
put a complaint in there and they will have the attorney general go after alienware for you. Alienware has to answer them within 30 days. Usually they will settle with you and write a letter to the bbb that everything is fine now bla bla bla. At the end of it, you get what you want.
