Powerful / Gaming Laptop

Yeah, I just wish searching G73JH-A1 at asus.com or even looking at their laptop gaming machine lineup from the drop down menu actually showed this new model.

Although a laptop screen resolution may not matter too much, in terms of watching a movie at 1080p, considering people say you should have a 50" or larger screen to really see the difference, maybe it doesn't matter - fortunately this machine does offer 1080p anyway.

I think I prefer matte finish though too. The glossy laptop displays are super obnoxious in my opinion.

Hey if anyone finds a better spec laptop at a competitive price post it here please. Well, really anything comparable let alone better. Pending reviews / build quality / support quality, I think this is the winner for sure at the moment.

There is one thing I'm curious about regarding the CPU; the CPU choices only inclue 1.6Ghz, 1.73Ghz and 2.0Ghz - the later two being a great deal more expensive.

Now if you want to load a game or other application that says you need at least a 2.0Ghz Intel Core2Duo, what is the game/application going to see a mobile i7 1.6Ghz or 1.73Ghz CPU as? They all have turbo boosts modes going well over 2Ghz, but that only applies in specific situations. So, would I have to spend an extra $1100.00 just to allow games/applications to see a 2Ghz CPU? I don't think so but I'm curious how that works out.

The clock speeds across different CPU architectures do not match up 1-for-1. A Core i7 1.6Ghz is going to perform faster than a Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz CPU, even though the clock speed is technically lower.

You will be absolutely fine with any Core i7 CPU - 1.6Ghz, 1.73Ghz, or 2.0Ghz. You do not need to worry about CPU speed requirements. And even if a game installer does detect that your CPU is "only" 1.6Ghz, you will often have an option to install the game anyway.
