$130 3G chip. ;)
I don't think it will EVER gave a USB port or SD card. That goes against Apple's entire mobile platform. If it's USB how do they get paid for every dock sold? They make a lot of money licensing that. Adding some sort of SD port might happen in 5-6 years, if that's the popular platform for movies and books at the time. Otherwise Apple will ignore it until the very end.
I would love for someone to take a dump on the ipad and have it on youtube
Interesting that some people are comparing it to a laptop. It does not appear to be a laptop replacement to me, but more of a mobile device. It acts like a larger version of an iPhone/itouch and it would be ridiculous for someone to purchase an itouch instead of a laptop.
Single task device for the multitasking generation? Pretty much fail IMHO.
But then again people will by this more because of form then function. That alone will make it a hit.
hmmm, I didn't know that in order for something to be classified as a mobile device, it had to fit in your pocket, I'm out of the loop I guess.
I don't Actually carry my iPhone in my pocket but thanks to your suggestion, I might buy a laptop case for it; my iPhone laptop replacement. So clever!
I doubt the ipad will fit where your itouch fits.
IMO mobile device has been stretched waaay too far these days. Some people consider a 17" multimedia laptop to be a mobile device. Just because you "can" carry it doesn't make it a "mobile device." I find the definition to be something that you can carry on your person without realizing you are carrying anything. A cell phone, mp3 player, PDA, etc count.
Good points and by your definition, I would agree for the most part. Leaving the term "mobile device" left up to the interpretation of each individual consumer, I'm going with it's portability, connectivity, and functions. I like the ipad idea;
But make no mistake, it is no laptop and apple is not going after that market with ipad, they already have that area covered fairly successfully.
It's more than portable enough for what it's supposed to be, a big iPod Touch. If they'd have made it any smaller, they'd have given up a lot of screen space. I'd rather have something made to watch video a little less portable with a bigger screen, most people would. I'd hazard to guess that most of the forthcoming products from ASUS and such will be the same rough size.
I'm still psyched about the comic reading capabilities. Gizmodo or one of those blogs even had an article about it a couple of days ago. Got me even more excited. And then there's news that Apple will drop the price if the iPad is selling slower than expected, so I can't see how this thing can fail.
Still no news about which one of the garbage telecoms here in the USSC is going to offer internet access for it but I can't say I'm all that worried. I don't think I'd ever take the thing out of my house.
Edit: and if anything it's the Kindle that's gonna fail. It looks so completely obsolete next to the iPad, despite the obviously different market. Yes, we're all aware that eInk is better for the eyes, yadda yadda yadda, but the average person doesn't know about that. It just looks like some ancient B&W device next to the iPad. And Amazon knows it. They are running scared, talking about their own color tablet now (not even using eInk from the sounds of it, so it's gonna be too little too late if it's just another me-too device) and the book publishers are jumping ship into the waiting arms of Apple and higher prices.
