AMD isn't going to be eating anything because high-end 28nm is so far away. No way they get them out before Summer.
Damn I really need some new cards. So Nvidias flagship isn't due out till Q1 2013? Jeebus. I was really hoping to buy some EVGA 570s or something then use the stepup with 90 days. Looks like that isn't going to be an option. :(
Hmmm I may just add another 470 and call it a day.
I'm really thinking about 2 570s even without step-up. I could just sell them later I guess.
Well I just said eff it and went with
2 of these:http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-S...3225635&sr=1-1
and 1 of these: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Profes...3225667&sr=1-1
That should hold me over for a bit. :D
Oh I also picked up 12GB of Corsair DDR3 as well since it was only $67. Gaming rig upgrade!
Holy ****, that is crazy man. Go ahead and order full water cooling gear while you are at it :)
Let us know how you like it.
I haven't used Crossfire as I strictly use Nvidia cards. I do know that SLI in BF3 is friggin awesome. And basically, SLI is awesome in almost any game now. Microstutter for me is undetectable but looking at graphs I can see it is much more pronounced on AMD setups.
I don't think I'll ever go back to a single card, especially with the way that SLI is scaling these days. BF3 gives an 85-90% increase with SLI. That is nearly linear. Totally worth it.
One advantage of being 4 years behind in what games I'm playing is crossfire is worked out. I am all for faster graphics but what current game can't be crushed by the current high end cards?
When you start wanting 1080p and higher res, with 8xAA, and transparent AA, max AF, and all graphics on Ultra, you still need all the horsepower you can get.
I absolutely abhor anything less than 60fps. It's got to stay pegged at 60. If you want to do that in modern games with settings like I stated above, fast cards in SLI is really your only option.
I don't get all the people that still think you can't see anything past 30fps. Total lie. Show me 2 rigs, one at 60fps and one at 45fps and I can quickly and easily tell you which is which. 60fps is liquid smooth. Anything less and it feels "jerky" to me and ruins my immersion.
Mobile 7000 series just announced:

Definitely going to a month or more before desktop cards come out if they are doing mobile first.
Note these are not based on the 28nm architecture. There were manufacturing difficulties. Anandtech reports that the full line will not be out this year, but we may see something in 28nm hit stores before the new year.
Wow, pretty lame. AMD and Nivida just rebadged their old GPUs with the next series and called it a day. Nothing to see here.
