What is FreeBSD?
FreeBSD is a UNIX variant.
I think BSD stands for Berkely Systems Distribution.

You can buy converters for mac monitors.

Has anyone used that stoopid little optical mouse yet? What a pain in the ***.
There is 3 things that i like on a mac:
1. When you pick something on a menu it blinks a few times after you click it.
2. Very stylish components.
3. That little bomb that shows up when you make it crash.... I like that thing so much they should build it into windows.... That stoopid blue screen sux.... They should make a TweakUI for Windows that you can change how your crash screen looks....

all ive heard about it is that it is based on Next, so it will have a command line prompt somewhere in the OS(which most mac users have never even seen before), so it will prolly get some time getting used to for them.Quote:

as for the open source comment, i was talking about the PC architecture being "open source," meaning that IBM made it legal for other companies to make PC products(which apple has fought all along). And yes, i do use linux, win98(unwillingly), and win2k(willingly). ive just started to use linux tho, so im not fully fluent in it yet.

who said you cant game on a notebook????
What I hate the most is dropping $1500 for a new G4 and only getting 64MB of Ram. What in the hell are you going to with 64mb of ram-surf the web? I used to try and game on one but no-love. My K62+500@560 smokes my G4 400 in frame rates when it is working properly. Another drawback is the lack of interchangeable parts-with a pc half the fun is buying the parts you want Vid card, sound etc. One thing I can say though is that the G4 paid for itself in one weekends worth of work. Love not having to use a screw driver to open the case also.
you cant buy a convertor for the apple display connector because it has power, usb, and display connector all built in

Building a PC isn't only half the fun, but half the pain as well: mmm, cheapo steel and fingers.

I think those converters are for the older monitors which sent back what resolution? the monitor should be run at.
zombor:
You can't buy a converter yet, but you COULD probably make one.

hehehe all i can say is i cant belive i got so many people to put there opinions on a mac topic. funny stuff. https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/08/2.gif
the mac is just an easy system to use, that is the only diff
and the reason u dont get so good fps in your games on the g4, is cause the card basically sucks in it!
and im a mac fan, put another card in it, and it will get closer to the pc.

mm interesting concept
ever see an old Mac commercial? a little mouse, one button, easy to use... right. no way what they are really saying is, "if your an idiot, use a Mac, see your kids can, thats why we put them in schools" ill give you that they are designed from the ground up to be what they are. Hmmm what ever happened to Next, or the Amiga. ill tell you, people wants choices and options. i come close to tossing my cookies when i see the $ they want for blue plastic or what ever bubble gum crap they paint the box. if you look inside a Mac youll see many familure Hardware vendors inside. why the 50% premium? because your Co going broke and MS bailed you out. my step mom is an "educator" and self proclaimed Mac expert. she still maintains a Mac is Faster than the PC, again, what BS commerical did she watch. Mac owners are died in the wool ill give them that. the problem is that they are now middle age and going to die soon from slow down loads and aged apps. the newby nerds are on the PC! wake up look at what the kids use thats were the $ is spent...remember joe camal
BDS - berkley science division? - no sure tho???
Don't get me wrong I like macs, but even with a good video card-say like the 5500 in the Sharky review it still can't match my K62+500 in Q3 frames G4=37 K62+500=45 and we all know how big a pile a s@#t the K62 is. Matter of fact even with a V3 3000 I got 40fps. I give you the fact that the nerds are all on Pc's and Bill Gates a$$. Those mac commercials a just as sad as those damn pentium ones. As far as the kids go-what do they know, most of them can't even figure out how to wear a belt these days?! ;0
OS X is based on Next which is based on Mach 3.0 which was a Unix derivative made by Carnegie Mellon University.

Windows isn't "open source" either, hell if Bill would let you see the source code it uses. Mac OS-X is supposively going to be open source so it will be easier for people to support and write software for. Keep in mind...open doesn't mean free.

personally, the userfreindliness of macs digust me...other than the fact that the architecture isnt "open source" i dont really have a problem with macs, id just rather not use one

I wasnt talking about windows. I was talking about the PC architecture. IBM lets anyone make sound cards, video cards, procs and just about anything else that goes into a PC. You dont see apple doing that, do you? Thats what i meant by the architecture being open source.
