My Dad just got the Olympus C-2100 and it kicks! The zoom is absoluty amazing. But at only 2 megapixels it might not be enough for you, but I;m not sure. I think it looks great and performs very well! Hope this helps! O and it retails around 800$

You can always check out http://www.dpreview.com .
I had a Nikon 950, a Canon S10, and now own a Nikon 990. my web.
My site is http://hometown.aol.com/neonexpres/links.html
Using a scope, I could do this:

http://members.aol.com/deathriderpc/...atertower1.jpg
http://members.aol.com/deathriderpc/...atertower3.jpg
The last one is a little screwed up because I was handholding the camera to the scope.

Hey all,
When I was searching for the best bang for buck I came up with 2 that fit the bill for me. Both are Canon cameras, and they are in very different price ranges.
The first is a quick n easy snap shot camera with all the features I want: 2.1MP, 2x optical zoom, supports CF-II/microdrive, small, and damned cheap. For a review see: http://www.steves-digicams.com/s10.html for $314 plus shipping see: http://www.buydig.com/
If you want more pixels, the S20 fits the bill, for only $100 more you get 3.34MP.
The second is a digital SLR, with all the important features: 3.25MP, changeable lenses (Canon EF type), supports CF-II/microdrive, and of course enough changeable settings to make a pro happy. For a review see http://www.steves-digicams.com/d30.html For $1750 plus ship (no lense) see: http://www.expresscameras.com/
I'll admit the S10 was actually purchased as a gift, and I haven't even received it yet (it shipped last night) but I'm planning on getting my GF an S20, and at some later date myself the D30 (unless better stuff comes out soon)
I suggest going to Steve's Digital Camera site to compare features and get some nice information/reviews. http://steves-digicam.com/ The things I found important were: CF-II with support for the IBM microdrive. Why you might ask? Because I can get a 1GB micro for cheaper than a 300MB solid state. All the above cameras can be fitted with a plug-in power adapter for "studio" sessions. The picture quality of these cameras is really nice.
Now for the amusing bit: My boss just received his Nikon D1x ($5100 new at http://www.ngscorp.com/ ). He also owned a D1 for quite some time, he sold it on ebay. His site: http://www.photoworkings.com/ lighthouses and stuff, all D1 photos. He bought a Sony Dye-Sub printer and I've seen the output... it's as good as film if not better.
What is it you want in a camera? Figure that out before you do anything else. If you want to point and shoot, don't get a digital SLR. If you want to fiddle with F-stops and shutter speeds, get a digital-SLR. Other than that it's all about the features.
Oh yeah, and also check out: http://www.dpreview.com/ and also I got my best prices at http://www.dealtime.com/ No I don't usually walk around advertising sites like this, however when something I use saves me hundreds of dollars, I figure I might help someone else out too.
