I agree with you... but the best thing about techno/progressive/house is that it is repetitious for a reason -- to make it easier to dance to. I don't see how anyone can dance to Top 40 crap, it just escapes me. Now with techno you have a steady bass beat which, depending on the emphasis, can have a very danceable beat no matter how fast the actual music is.Quote:

must dance music techno type stuff(trance, rave, ect.) is very repetative and as you said is very easy to dance to. but other stuff has its purpose and is not repetative. especially electronica.Quote:

on another note, dl the song called we bust by west coast bad boys. its a rap song but it has such a tight beat and has pretty nice bass.....and if you want a really good pretty fast beat then dl essential vibes by brooklyn bounce(one of my fav!)
and by the way, that song you mentioned by donald glaube is pretty cool. and on another note i finally got a 20 gig hd for my mp3's!!!! so the next lan party i will have lots more mp3's to give! i already have over 2000+ now.
Well, I haven't heard of Digital Explosion, but I am very much into the electronic music genre. Trance, break beats, progressive, some techno...hehe, its my obsession.
Some people here say that its simple and repetitive. Hmm, well, repetitive, it is, but simple...hehe, far from it. Its much more complex and thoughtout than rap/hip hop/pop will ever be, and, even though I do like rock, I would say that its more complex than that as well. Of course, not all trance is like that...there's a crapload of commercial mainstream trance (like ATB, Blank & Jones, Aquagen, Darude...a few others I can't think of) which is quite simple and plain, so if thats what you listened to, then yes, I agree with you. But if you look around and listen to productions by real artists who aren't in it for the money and their main goal isn't to get their 3 minute cookie-cutter single on the air for a few weeks, then you'll find some really good, thought-out (and yes, repetitive...but also progressive) music. Electronic music is one of the hardest genre's to write for; creating all the layers of synths and their timing, along with a beat (thats probably the simplest, but still requires some work) and creating a bassline...heheh, trust me, its not simple.
Some examples; Paul van Dyk - For An Angel, BT - Flaming June, Hybrid - Finished Symphony and Dreaming Your Dreams, Carl Cox - Phuture 2000 (Hybrid remix), Gouryella - Tenshi, Chicane - Autumn Tactics (Thrillseekers mix), Sasha - Xpander...I could go on for a few more hours, but I'll stop there.

Seriously though, I think you are correct in what you say that it isnt as apparently simple as some people think. To make such tunes is simple in theory, but the practise is so much harder to do as you say. There are some superb tunes out there, just to add another couple of examples such as William Orbit's Barbers Adagio For Strings, and Verococha's Carte Blanche. Also, I may be alone, but such music is like a drug for me, I can literally listen to it for hours and not get bored, such is the dynamic and exciting quality of good trance music.
Yea, Carte Blanche and Adagio for Strings are indeed great tunes. And you're not alone, I too am quite addicted to trance and its many variations...as I'm writing this, I'm listening to it, and it's going to be playing non-stop for a few hours. And if by some miracle I don't listen to it for a whole day, I start getting cranky...lol, trance is my drug...I love it :D:D:DQuote:

oh yippie! techno freak!!! wahoo, im all excited now. ive actually never heard of some of those groups you mentioned but the minute i get home from my gf house ill be dl like crazy!! i guess i listen to a little more of the "commercialized" groups but i have high respect for many of them. such as chemical brothers, brooklyn bounce(one of my favs), infected mushroom, green velvet, 303infinity, ect and so on. and i dont care what anyone says, dj venom sucks. so does madison avenue. lol, but im serious, they both really suck.Quote:

Heheh, yea, thats one of the faults of being obsessed with something...if someone misuses a term or something...you start boiling up inside. Its all cool though, I know trance/techno/electro/prog/house aren't the most popular genre's (in North America) so not everyone is "in tune" with all the terminology, dj's, producers, etc etc etc.Quote:

And Alice Deejay...heheh, she's a wanna-be trance artist. Alice Deejay, Darude, ATB...bah! :mad: :mad: Heheh, but if they fit your style, then cool...I guess, but in my opinion, they're only popular cause they lack originality and just ripoff the real stuff, and market it as their own.

Yea, its amazing how many of you people over the pond confuse techno with trance. For me, trance is the one that takes the most skill to produce and ends up sounding the best.
As for those bands mentioned. Maddison Avenue suck, Alice Deejay kinda sucks, but has a couple of listenable tunes (Better off alone, and The lonely one), Darude likewise (Sandstorm, Feel the beat, Out of control, the rest is pure garbage), and ATB (9pm till i come wasnt bad, and there was a white label called Oh ya that was listenable and quite original too). There are many other producers that fit into this category too, such as Fragma, Lasgo, Milk Inc, and Ian Van Dahl. All have made some listenable tunes, but some complete crap too.
If you want some decent tracks Squirrel Meat, then look for Chicane, System F/Ferry Corsten, Armin Van Buuren, Tilt, The thrillseekers, Robert Miles, William Orbit, Storm, Mauro Picotto, Push (these are very good), Paul van Dyk, Binary Finary (for their 98/99/2000 songs), Agnelli & Nelson, BT, Kai Tracid, Underworld, Vincent De Moor and Delerium, as well as anything mixed by any of the above as well as Dumonde and DJ Scot Project.
They should give you enough to be getting on with :p

i talked to infinity last night on the msn messenger for a good hour or so and it was pretty cool! he explained alot of stuff to me and we just talked about some trance, techno stuff. and i spent a great deal of time at www.traceaddict.com , lets just say i got a LOT of new songs last night!

Yeah, Push is amazing. His stuff under his aliases are good too; Moon Project, Deep Sonar and a few others I can't remember. PvD's remix of Underworld - Born Slippy is incredible (just like all his stuff is). Cascade/Transa also topnotch...same with Airwave, his stuff is deep trance/techno...not typical uplifting stuff, very very nice. My recent favourite is Signum's Second Wave...amazing song. Oh man, I could go on for hours just mentioning artists, lol. The people you mentioned up there are pure quality, especially the Thrillseekers (which is actually one person), Push, PvD, Binary Finary, BT, AvB, Corsten...hehe, the only one you didn't mention is DJ Tiesto ;) He's great too.Quote:

I´m not much into the techno genre, but that doesn´t mean I don´t like all types of techno music. My favourite techno songs are from the album Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy. I think it´s a special type of techno music, but some of the songs are very good. One of my favourite songs on this album are Narayan, Breathe and Climbatize. Any of you listen to Prodigy then?
Positron, yeah I listen to Prodigy, they were one of the biggest groups of their time, and their music is still held in high regard today. Fat of the Land is an excellent album. I would describe the style more as electronic punk rock in places, and maybe going a bit "hard" dance with songs like Narayan and Firestarter.
Have you listened to any of their other albums, like Experience (the first album, like an acid/hardcore sound), or Music for a jilted generation (sort of bridges the gap between the first album and fat of the land), or the Dirtchamber sessions (not like dance at all).
I can barely stand to hear Prodigy anymore. Not cause I don't like them, but I listened to the Fat of the Land all the time for about a year till the CD got too scratched to play.
On another note: Does anyone else notice how many commercials have Basement Jaxx music in them right now!?
