Waits for the NV50 or R500 for unreal 2003 to be very playable 1600x1200 resolution with all details on maximum and both maximum FSAA and AF enabled! Plus maybe Doom 3 may be playable to at these setting but who knows.

"It's not like anyone expects their flagship card not to be faster then the competion but they are in 2nd place at the moment which should be quite embarrashing for the company actually."
I disagree Belial. Why should they be embarassed they're not in first place for the first time in how many years?
"so long to show up that ATI is going to have yet another card out at around the same time. Any speed advantage this card has will quickly be erroded by the competion; So we can expect the NV35 or NV40 3 months after the NV30 is released? Or do we have another long wait for the next earth shattering card by NVIDA?"
You've got to remember, we're basically spoiled by an unprecedented release pace nVidia CREATED. ATI has not released chips on pace with nVidia, the 9700 came well over a year after the 8500. No other chip company has kept pace with nVidia- period. ATI may be on top for a few months, but look at the big picture:
Since the TNT1 4-5 years ago, nVidia has been at the top of the pack. They're second for 4-5 months, but that's out of 4-5 YEARS. In business, it's not the short run that matters.
I agree with all your statements except the fact that the R9700Pro came only 10 months after the R8500 not over a year. ;)Quote:

It is all very interesting to see who comes out on top performance wise but lets be real here. People willing to put down 400USD to have the best possible video card for maybe 3 or 4 months are very few. The important thing is the spectrum of cards available at any given time. No matter how great NV30 is I will not be buying one for a while and by that time ATI will have something else and if we are lucking one of the other rumored cards will be available just to make it interesting. I bought my Retail 8500 last spring for 130USD. What was it when it first came out? 299? 399? So these king of the hill arguements are kind of pointless. ATI and Nvidia will both have really fast cards and they will both have last years cards that will wtill do a great job. I don't care about running at 1600x1200. I have a 17 inch monitor and bad eyes so I almost always run at 800x600 sometimes 1024x768. So we will see what NV30 brings to the table.
Actualy you are wrong , i played UT 2 with 16 AF and 4 AA in 1600x1200 in 32 bit with a P IV 2400 and if was very playable , in fact i got between 35 to 50 FPS usualy . My MSI 4400 occ @ 300/600 will get only 8 to 18-20 FPS @ those settings .Quote:

And I think the 9700 is a good upgrade if you have anything under GF3 or Radeon 8500... A friend has one and it has made me a believer in ATi but I will wait for the NV40 to upgrade again, perhaps NV35 if I can justify it... :)
Also, current CPU's are bottle necks for the 9700.;)
Everytime I see one of these Nvidia vs. ATI or Intel vs. AMD threads I have to laugh. Why is everyone so intent on being on a "side"? "Ooooh ooooh I am on the Nvidia team!!!" "Oh you are on the ATI team???? U R dumb and ATI sucks!" "My dad can beat up your dad."
What a load. Get a grip people, these are CORPORATIONS that take your money in exchange for a product. Either the product is worth your money or you buy one that is. Who cares who is in 1st place? Let's be happy that Nvidia, ATI, Matrox and SIS all exist otherwise we would all be paying $500 for our vid cards.
I'm personally on the Nvidia side because I simply like the company better. I've only owned ONE Nvidia card my whole life--the GeForce3, and I'm very happy with it and Nvidia's support for it. If a video card manufacturer comes out with a really great card and is worth the money, I'll buy it. Personally, if an Nvidia and an ATI card with identical performance and price were on the market, I'd go with the Nvidia card only because of more stable drivers and the assurance that I'll know it will work on my system (The idea of Radeon 9700 revisions that are already out just frightens me) Yes, I will most likely buy the NV30 when it comes out instead of a 9700 because I feel my money will be more safely invested with Nvidia. I don't hate ATI, and I'm not a crazed "Nvidiot" I don't get mad at people for loving Pepsi instead of Coke, so don't get mad at people for loving Nvidia instead of ATI, or vice-versa.Quote:

I'm still wondering why everyone thinks NV30 is going to be much faster than 9700 other than its being released later. When the 8500 was due to come out in a couple months there was a roadmap that showed the specs of R200, RV200, R300, RV300, R400 and the specs of the 9700 are almost IDENTICAL to the specs on that roadmap(which I believe was pulled at the request of ATI). ALL the rumors about NV30 I heard about listed a 6 pipe card with a 128-bit memory interface...until the specs of the 9700 came out. Suddenly the NV30 had two extra pipes and an extra 128-bit slapped onto the memory interface. The longer the card takes to come out the more I personally believe that they realized it was gonna need to be beefed up to compete(and a 6 month delay could be enough time to shore up those areas).

Well you should be pretty happy then with the release schedule as it's playing out now; I can forsee you getting a 9700 pro at a bargin price later on or maybe some other card a whole lot sooner then if either ATI or NVIDA had their way.
that's why these video card wars are so interesting and it's helps on the ole pocket book also even if you don't buy high end as soon as it's released.
We can only hope and pray that NVIDA will have to release the NV30 replacement sooner rather then later....I want all the NVIDA fans to be able to get their $150 NV30's as soon as possible!!! he he so lets hope the NV35/40 have to be released soon and that the NV30 has a very, very short life indeed!!!!.
I think NV30 will no doubt be an impressive card but to say it is because UT 2003 has hidden settings for it seems premature. If thats the case the 9700 is great cause it runs DOOM3 extremely well already. I think how great it will be is how fast it is released. The longer its on the bench the older the tech becomes. The Voodoo 5 5500 would have been awesome if it were released against the GF1 but delays meant it competed with the GF2 and it didn't have the speed. Now I certainly am not suggesting nVIDIA is going to flounder in anyway like 3dfx did but it shows to me that a products timing of release is as important as its technology. If they wait for ATI to slide out R350 it will seem a lot less impressive as compared to releasing it in a month or two.
Why yes from quite a while ago..Quote:

He's right. It's not 8x faster, maybe more like 1.5 - 2x faster than a geforce 4. Turning AF up to 16x may not induce nearly the hit that it would on a geforce4 (or 8x in this case), but it's still not free. Lastly, it can't do 1600x1200, 6AA, 16AF, all details w/ playable frame rates IN ALL GAMES. Look at ut2k3, some people don't mind 30 fps in single player, but most people sure as hell would in an online game, especially when it starts dipping down to 20 or so when there's a ton of action. The 9700 may be a great card, but some people exaggerate it's capabilities.Quote:

Romania is better :D.
The poor guys stuck with there slow 9700 will have to play there new games at a choppy 100fbs while the NV30 guys will get a smooth looking 150fbs.;)
Well it takes some guts to use your actual picture as your sig...even if some people may or may not like your picture I think it probably shows you will stand behind what you say.Quote:

Honestly, who really cares?
Get the card that you think will do the job you want.
I like both companies, and have bought products from both of them.
Until a board using the NV30 is available, and tested against the 9700, it's pointless to argue which is going to be faster, since no one really knows.
Things can look really good on paper....Remember BitBoys? They never got a thing to market. So until Nvida actually delivers the product, keep an open mind, and dont jump to conclusions.

I'm not crazy about that pic.. it does look like a bowl job.. I can't deny that.. I gotta post a new one when I hit 5000. I also like picking on australia.. they're too easy..
Hmmm, you haven't been in Bali lately have you?Quote:

This is the type of nitpicking that reveals obvious bias. The 9700 is a beast, and is likely the largest leap in power between any two generations of a card. It is not enough that the game DEVOURS any title at 1600*1200,people nock it because it can't pull off this resolution with 6AA and 16AF in this ONE game. Give me a break and give due credit to ATI for releasing a great card in a timely fasion.Quote:
