You want facts. Yet you don't accept them because they were stated by me. In that case, I'm left with one option - to point you to some sources and hope you take the time to consult them.
- There are good books on RolePlaying that you can find on most good bookstores. Amazon carried some of these, at least sometime ago.
- Anything by Gary Gigax. He's the official "father" of the genre.
- Most sites and forums related to D&D. A search engine is helpful, but Wizards.com is also a good start.
After you see how the genre started, who started, how it evolved, and how it came into the computer/console format... then maybe we can talk under the same perspective.
