Anyway, Sublim... answer me this: If 50 people defend that the earth is flat and 5 say it's round, who's right? According to your logic, that would be the majority who "think so".
That's the kind of reasoning that led me to use certain comments which, although true, may come out as uncalled flaming - for that alone, I apologize.
However, it's funny to notice that all of you flamed just as much or more... and yet it seems to be ok since you agree with each other.
Your comparison is flawed. The earth being flat, is a scientific fact, not a gaming term that is ambiguous. My Logic, is that "rpg" is a gaming term, that is not clear, or well defined. For this reason many have differing opinions on what it is. Therefore, majority rules. The earth not being flat, is a well defined, unambiguious fact, and a poor comparison.Quote:

Also my response, is argumentative against you, but not flaming. Flaming is going "Uneducated" "Few Brain Cells" etc. Any sentence, word or such, that attacks someone with out being backed up with facts.
"Not in the gaming industry", ok, if popular opinion was with you, perhaps that would make sense. But popular opinion is siding with them. The gaming community is generally a smart one (not a flame towards you) that defines itself. Those who 'work' for the industry, meet the gaming population demands, and feed us what we want, because they need us. Its not as fascist as other industries, such as the movie industry.
If you have a differing opinion, make a strong argumentative statement as to why it isn't. So far, in my opinion this has not been done. Erronious quotes, flaming, etc. have greatly diminished your point of view. Stop the flaming, and make a stand. This is not a flame, but a request for you to clearly state your point of view, with facts.
Have you ever read any of Gary Gigax works (not the games)? Or any other author? As you can probably guess, it's virtually impossible to post the content of a full book in a forum message. Even if it was possible, it would be too time consuming to do so. I did, however, stated a FACT back in my earlier post which I QUOTED back in this thread about the nature of the genre.Quote:

Second, who is this guy? Im sorry, but im a gamer not a reader. I respect Gary Kasavin, and other prominent figures in the gaming industry.
How nice, now the authors name comes out, yet not one concrete quote from this guy.
As i said, im a gamer, not a reader. Rpgs are meant to be fun, and in the gaming industry have become to mean a game where the main character levels up, and does stuff similiar to that. Games that contain wizards, warriors, archers, etc. are Generally RPGS. Books or no books, this is what the community accepts. You may feel it is wrong, but hey come on, there is no clear guru to go to. So we take majority opinion. And that opinion sides with the Diablo being an rpg.
Furthermore, i don't care how books and writings manifested them selves into games. The fact is that the term RPG refers to games that deal with magic, leveling up and such. There are many sub-genres action-rpg, console-rpg, classic-rpg, oldschool-rpg, etc. They come in different flavors, but they all belong to the same order, RPG.
