The funny thing is this thread is about Intel and its possible naming of prescott and somehow some one not me had to bring AMD into it. I almost never post in AMD/Intel threads.Quote:

Yah i mention that Intel is probably calling it P5 because it only makes sense that if AMD has a new name Intel should everyone else agrees why not you? And then you call me completely wrong and go off on your Intel cant be touched things so i decied to respond. Dont make me out ot be the bad guy here. If you think Intel isnt effected by AMD lets leave it at that i dont care to argue.
As for the name i am still not 100% positive they will go ahead with the P4 simply because i think they might get some rough criticism for it. Why? Well many review sites complain to death about the AMD naming scheme and if Intel releases this and tries to sale it to the public as a brand new core then they might get some kind of rough criticism. Also Tejas will be equally great and to still its thunder now might be a mistake sense it will be released relatively soon after. Also antother thing to keep in mind is that it might make more sense to introduce the new name with a new socket like they did with P4. Well anyway time can only tell.
Intel is still debating, but good chance itll be called a pentium5 or maybe at least a pentium4 pro or pentium4 enhanced ;)

$50 bucks says its called Pentium4 at the end of the day. Intel has invested more money then ever before in marketing the name Pentium4 and I don't think they are going to just up and change it already.Quote:

Don't forget that they dumped it after the P3. While AMD was able to take it to the next level.
It's like you dumping an old car and getting a new dragster, then someone takes your old car, hooks it up real nice, and then gives you a good run for your money.

Ummm, Intel didn't drop x86(as I gather you think from what you quoted)after the P3, and has the highest performing x86 processor and has for quite a long time now.Quote:

Any idea why they called it Prescott? Does this have anything to do with Prescott, AZ?
prescott is a codename. intel has codenames for every processor they come out with...just like microsoft has codenames for their os's before they come out. nothing more than a codename.
Arent the codenames towns around the Intel headquarters or am i wrong?
