I programmed one of the CH-throttle buttons to switch hatch view with a simple thumb press. :D

The only criticism I have is the ability to bomb yourself (in-flight) in this game. It's true to life to a certain degree (actually in real life, even at level flying there are flow effects, such as fuel tanks ripping through the tailpipe at subsonic/supersonic speeds). It's just that the statistics in the game are laughable. I don't recall the mass destruction of flights out of careless bombing of themselves in ww2...

Then again I don't recall stories of troops dodging incoming bazooka rounds by jumping around either....those are some pretty weird one-on-one battles that go on, esp duelling with the game's AI.

Yeah!!! Got it set up so I can switch the camera views. Thanks for the help. I also found that one of the joystick buttons will remove the dash instruments from view, so I get the cockpit view and x-hairs, just no dash, and I like it. :D

If you push "inside view" twice (or once if you're already in "inside view") it will do that for you ;)If you hit it again it brings the dash backup.

Oh yeah, whenever I get inide a plane it's "F9" before I take off always. Who fly's with the HUD?

I didn't know about it, I just ran across it on accident. It is way better that way.

Some servers dissable the no-HUD view. I don't play on those servers :)

I've never found a server that did that. I discovered this when I was playing Wake Demo, I don't know how you can fly with your view being obsured. You won't be able to see who you bomb. I love that you can easily remove it. It makes for a much better game, IMO.

Obviously the HUD adds realism, but I agree that it is much funner without it.

I used to do that but with the F# view keys replaced onto the joystick's Hat switch you can change view even in the middle of a dogfight.:)

I never bothered with it until just a month ago and boy I did not know what I was missing.

It plays all the same maps and a few extra customs also but your weapon are modern and look and act like they are also. I love taking out jets with a "Stinger" over the shoulder rocket lancher.:)

Can't believe I had to pay for the crappy "Road to Rome" expansion but this awesome "Desert Combat" was free!:eek:

Ya, stick with bf1942 for now, until you're bored with it. Then play DC. I still prefer bf1942 over DC. I think it's more fun.

I agree, it's nice to get good at vanilla BF. It truely is an excellent game. Then ones you feel you've gotten good at BF (you don't have to be God of BF or anything) try DC. It is much faster paced and can be a little intimidating to n00bs. DC should have Release .4 out in a month or two and then you will see the real difference between the two. Also Secret Weapons is an expansion for BF that will be coming out very soon. They are going to be releasing a stand alone DEMO so be sure to check that out before you head off to the store next.

There is supposed to be a new DC patch (0.39) sometime this week. The Secret Weapons demo comes out this Friday (which might be the same day as DC 0.39)

But .4 will have the navy and completely new maps (no old bf42 maps). With .4 there should be no vanilla BF elements left in the game. Everything from machine guns to tanks to the crud on your shoe will be DC made.

that's what the dev team says, though I'm sure due to public demand they will still support the old ones. But they may be a seperate download instead of in the normal release.

I had one forum, but since last week I've had to go to two. And just today I've had to add another. *sigh* I hate forum politics, one of the reason I keep coming back to SF.

1.) Bf42.com - the original community hang out. Recently a Mod revolt lead to new leadership and loss of about 1/2 the community.

2.) This is where the 1/2 went and formed their own community. Knowledgable people frequent here but more attitude.

3.) Just found out a couple hours ago that this will be the BF1942 Desert Combat Mod Offical Forums. Here is where all the devs plan on making annoucements and where they will supposidly keep up with the community. However no one from the other forums like the Gamespy forums so we will have to see if the community responds.

If you have any questions you can PM me, I'm fairly knowledgable about the game and I've spent the last 6 months on the above mentioned forums.

I still find Battle of the Bulge to be the most difficult/challenging sp map out of the original box. The allied AI really slacks off in this one. Some jokers you find snake crawling at the base, rushing tanks with a pistol or just plain wandering around.(or maybe I need to add some more cpu cycles.) :confused: I start right out on the widnmill spawn point and hold off the first Panzer tide with anti-tank duck-and-spam until it seems inevitable one of the other points fall. It's one of those maps you can't really cheat on or exploit. Even Omaha Beach can be qickly undone if you slip behind enemy lines to the furthest spawn point.

I played that map the other day and noticed the same thing. It seemed like I was getting almost no support from my team members. I was running around with a bazooka trying to take out tanks, but there are too many ground troops to fight off with that, so I wold drop the Bazooka and grab a rifle, wondering where the hell my guys were at!?
