Im not really a MS mouse/keyboard fan... I usually prefer Logitech.. I have enough MS products that I dont need their hardware too :D
But I have been playing around with a MS Cordless Optical Blue, and it seems nice.. But why in gods earth would you place a sleep button on the mouse!!!!!
Seems pointless!

I also like MS software for controlling the mouse.. But it does use more resources then Logitech :(

I think that mouse is just plain ugly. The tilt wheel thing seems like an interesting idea though.

Regarding the Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer, I wonder what they mean by "black leather"... Is it suppose to feel like leather? The texture looks different from the picture.
I just got my MX700 not too long ago, and I'm very happy with it. Nice upgrade from the MX300 (which is pretty decent already).
Another vote for the mx700. Last TWO MS Opticals I had eventually started going back two pages at a time when clicking the side back button once. The mx700 is simply a work of engineered art.

I think the black leather looks pretty cool, would match my black everglide mousepad. I have the older blue wireless optical (and big hands), I love it, but I may have to switch to this one if I see it on sale somewhere.

That's really interesting because mine now does that every one and awhile, where the side button to back on a webpage goes back 2 pages, even though I never changed the configuration! Did you just live with it or is there a solution (besides a new mouse)?
oh, I've got to get the leather, that would feel so good to hold. It will go nice next to my leather chair too.

I think I even remeber reading that MS was replacing them if you called, but not 100% on that. I just had it with them and decided to give the Logitech a try... and I love it.
yes you can replace ANY microsoft mouse..however old if it no longer works. here is what you do:
If you call Microsoft Supplemental Parts (800-360-7561 toll free USA & Canada) they will give you a fax (716-447-7330). All you have to do is fax them the following:
1) To: Microsoft Supplemental Parts (<- rep said this was important)
2) your first & last name
3) address
4) telephone number
5) email address
6) photocopy of the bottom of your mouse, with a setting clear and light enough to show the Product ID information on the mouse.
they are actualy quite prompt in delivering the mouse. don't abuse this service by trying to get free mice...its one of the only good things that microsoft does for its customers. you dont have to pay shipping, dont have to return the old mouse, just send that in and wait for your new one.
I'll stick with my MX 500 until logitech upgrades.
The intellimouse feels cheap compared to the MX 500, not as heavy, and the buttons feel cheap.

yeah, i bought the 700 just the other day and i already love it. its sooo much better than my old mouse its ridiculous...i never wanted to get a wireless one because of the battery thing, but because this one is rechargeable i went for it.
Has anyone used the Intellimouse 5 drivers?
The new ones don't have an 'ESC/Stop' configuration for buttons :(

Mechanical
A Ball is used to control a series of wheels where a mechanical counting system detects the scalable lengths moved by the mouse.
Optical
A Camera and Small Processor work together to detect changes in photos taken as the mouse is moved over a surface. A LED is used to staticize the pictures a certain color.
Optical-Mechanical, Opto-Mechanical,
A Ball is used to drive a crossbar with a wheel attached on one end. The wheel which is opaque, has a series of fine etches on it through with a light is projected, direct absorbance and refraction of the light is detected by an Optical Sensor opposite the light projector on the other side of the wheel.
Microfibral Tension Sensing Matrix
A very fine, detection net of sensors coats a frame ergonomically designed to fit the user's hand. Following the statistically traditional electrical pules transferred through nerves in a person's hand when they move a mouse, the Sensing Matrix converts pressure data from across the sensor coat as virtual movement data. Additional pressure defines how fast the cursor moves, and similar sensors undernear the finger tips detect the signals which statistically mimic the signals projected by finger tips when a user wants to click buttons.
Crosswell Mark-Tracing and Gesture Acknowledgement System
Highly experimental, a special glove is worn and used within a semi-spherical chamber where lasers track minute dots on the surface of the glove. A process known as Mark-Tracing dictates the movement of the cursor on the screen by matching Gestures made by the hand (Detected as movements of the glove).
Neural Stem Pattern Analysis and Recognition (PAR)
Electrodes fitted on a special helmet are designed to pick up though distress associated with movement through analysis of brain waves and neural synapsis. Basically, you think where you want the cursor to go, and it goes there.
Fifth-Phase Telemetry Manipulation
This involves an implant fused in with a person's cerebral cortex, with various secondary implants being fused along the length of the spinal cord, and in the base of the neck. The central implant, called a Psiologcal Amp amplified though waves, and can manipulate them into a controlled stream of computational instructions. The result is being able to control the cursor onscreen with your mind.
Direct-Neural Connection
A similar implant to the one above, the Direct-Neural Connection allows a user to broadcast computational instructions but the thoughts are not of psiological nature, but rather the necessary electrical connections made to a hand to move a mouse are rerouted through an electrode array which plugs into the base of the neck.
