I need to personally inspect the speakers for quality craftsmanship and to find the source of the offending noises. Just send the speakers to my house and I believe I can help you out. I won't charge you a dime. You will however need to pay shipping (return as well, but just send cash...I'll do all the work.).
thx for the offer, but my next door neighbor is an audiophile. he works with car audio for his job, and his house is loaded with cool toys and gadgets. i'll just force him to look at it if anything... btw, i don't notice any crackling anymore, i blame it on winamp and bad mp3s.
oh, and having winamp preset on soft rock is usually pretty good for most stuff. a little more on the lows and highs, leaving the mids more or less default. oh, i reripped the song, and it sounds fine, it's the 192 kpbs mp3s. man, that is nuts.Quote:

where IS soupnazi?
HERE I am!!! I went out to play baseball with my bro and then went to the library...hehe. Glad you LOVE 'em Pinchy! So have your neighbours complained yet?;)
not yet. i'm still breaking them in. :) soon though, soon.
you missed like 20+ posts on this thing. i even posted pics!
Well I think it's more likely the ripp of the CD, something just went a little wrong during the ripp. You shouldn't be hearing crackles in a good 192Kpb ripped song.Quote:

But man now I need those damn klipsch speakers! I still love my 641's though, damn... I need to save up some money for the Klipsh.
Anyways, hope your enjoying the Klipsch, and try to re ripp the same song in 192, and see if it happens again.
Don't worry, I was all over them like a fat kid and cake.:DQuote:

You should prolly still send me the speakers...It is in my best interest that you do. Thanks. :)
LOL, okay, i'll get right on it. :)
After you rip the CD into WAV try using the --r3mix switch on the LAME command prompt in place of your ushual encoding options. This is a preset option that does a variable bit rate encoding at very high quality that sounds awesome and takes up less space. The only downside is that windows can't read the bitrate so it makes up some random number (~400 ushually). Although when you play the song in winamp the bitrate is accurately represented. I encode all my MP3s this way and it sounds very good on my AL641s - although I doubt these speakers sound near as good as the Ultras. Also, try using the MAD plugin if you aren't aleady. While the ID3 tag reading isn't as good, the sound is great.
If the Ultras are so good that they pick up the imperfections in something like that, then all I have to say is "damn!" :D
my sentiments exactly.Quote:

i just noticed that this sub hits lower than anything i've heard from an MM speaker. maybe just as good as the better HT subs i've heard. now only if it were downfiring. haha, then it'd be a HT sub!
It probably is better than alot of the mainstream HT subs, if it were downfiring? Doesnt matter, I'm pretty sure klipsch has tweaked the hell out of it. Remember the KLIPSCH RSW-15 is the second lowest reaching sub that Tom Nousaine has tested , it uses a front firing design. Alot of good quality subs now use this design.
And to add on to what Swerz is saying, this sub is coupled with a really nice set of sats, with a redesigned cross over network. I think for $400, this set is defniately worth it. Of course that statement is purely opinion, but don't forget a nice warranty and Klipsch customer support is backing it:)
good call, i need to register my 5.1s, even though it's probably not really necessary, especially since i ordered it directly through klipsch.Quote:

So the million dollar question....were the Ultra's worth being poor for now?;)
