Tetra master is a card game, a minigame that appeared in FF9, now you can play tetra master online via FFXI.
I might add tetra master to my account, card games can be cool sometimes in an rpg, building your deck, gambling with other players. Pazaak in KOTOR made me play it for hours and hours for example. And 1$ is nothing, if you stop playing card games at one point just get rid of that account option.
Thanks for the info, didnt no that. Your overview just hyped me up and want to play this game even more lol. The only turn off thou is this random server selection, doesnt this mean new players will face a cultural barrier in terms of language and comunication? Doesnt it also mean new players would be playing with level 70's rnning about? Anyways other then that, the game looks like the most finished mmporg to be launched, it has houses, mounts, and quest contents on the very first day. Still sucks that we cant play on new servers with friends, the world pass idea seems, eh..weak.
Man, I do not want to pay per month.:( How much will it be at the stores? And how much is it per month?
Plus another buck a month per extra character.....

Well they say its random but likely it will simply be a system to balance servers's ammount of players, so if there's a new servers, newbies will be sent there. Also you have to understand that in a MMORPG, there's always new peoples coming in. Even if you just joined the game, yes there will be level 70 players running around (unless its a 100% brand new server), but with 2000+ players on each servers, i dont see the problem with that. You'll find plenty of similar level peoples as you at all times. You can play on the same servers as your friend, as long as you or your friend use the world pass system. I agree that its not the best solution but its available, if you really want to play with your friend, you can.Quote:

Its not too bad really, most peoples just dont quite understand what kind of service you get in a MMO game. Its NOT your typical online game, they arent charging you cash because they're greedy bastards, they're charging money because they have to a) pay EXCESSIVE ammount of money for the ammount of bandwidth it takes to have 28+ servers with 2000+ players on each of them b) pay for the servers that will be hosting these games, think about how high end PCs have trouble having a smooth game of 12+ players in any online games, and most of the time they have to be dedicated servers or else the performances wont allow more than about 8. Think how many PCs it takes to store every players' information (its not stored in your pc, so it doesnt allow cheating by manipulating files), to have such a large world (i mean this is not 16x16 counterstrike map..) with thousands of players on them, constantly under loads of internet activity like battles, stats, cheat monitoring, chat between players, the AI of millions of NPCs, etc etc.
Then you have 24 hours a day, 7 days a week of tech support available in the game, you fall into a bug, you lose an important item for X or Y reason but it wasnt your fault, you get oppressed by a bunch of jerks, you have a problem running FFXI with your PC. etc. They have to pay these guys, its an actual job, its not just players wanting to "help" the developers, they're paid to help. You need a bunch of them on each servers, you can have a team of nearly a hundred of them during periods of the day, not counting the additional tech support for different hour shifts and different days like the weekends.
The world is not static either. In a typical game, it will remain the way it was designed until its either patched (and even then, developers never patch a game to change something completely, just bugs) or it will remain static the way it was from day one and forever. In an MMORPG its never entirely static, new worlds, new weapons, new armor, new races, new jobs, new quests, new missions, new features, etc etc. The developers are STILL working at full time in a game thats supposedly "finished".
I too wish that it would be free, but i've come to realize that for MMO games its simply not feasible, it would never work.
I hope you realize that, you can change your job at anytime, you dont like where you're headed, change job, simple as that. You can change nation aswell. Only thing you cant change is your race, unless you delete and recreate your character. Its flexible, you shouldnt need to create more than one character with this job system. You can build a character with all jobs maxed out if you were crazy enough to spend that much time, so what does having a 2nd character bring to the table? 1$ a month is what anyway? I pay more than that for a freaking bottle of water, and thats when the freaking machine doesnt rip me off.Quote:

I dont think monthly fee will spread until a long time, outside of MMORPGs, at least not for individual games. Console makers, or publishers might go with the route of asking a small monthly fee for account maintenance but not for an individual game, for ALL their games outside of MMO ones. It wont be like that on PC for a long time though.Quote:

Are there any other current games that are pay per month besides planetside?
Well the old MMO games like EQ, asheron call, WWII, etc. There's the recent Star Wars Galaxies. There's a bunch of upcoming MMORPGs, most gamers though are picking one and sticking with it. It would be crazy to play every MMO games and pay monthly fees for each of them. So when you jump into an MMO game, its because you think it will hold you off for a long time even when other MMO games will be out. I checked lots of upcoming MMORPGs before deciding on FFXI, i came to the conclusion that the alternatives that were less attractive than FFXI but could become great were way off into 2004 and beyond, so FFXI it is for me.
everquest...shadowbane...neocron...daoc...ac...ao...the list goes on...but about the random servers...if the server you pick is totally random then that kinda sucks as it would make it hard for you to play with your friends...Quote:

But like i said, if you know that you have a friend playing FFXI, its simple, ask him or send him a world pass, you'll be allowed to play on the same server as them. Its not a "great" system but in no way does the random system stop you from playing with known friends.Quote:

Sorry for all the questions :). Can you transfer characters to other servers with a world pass? It seems that you have to pay for these passes, and since the servers are atleast a year off with a few accounts on them, passes would be 1000-2000gil :/. Would suck to wait a week just to play with a guildie..
I dont think you can transfer an existing character to another server with a pass, you'll have to deal with the game masters for that. MMORPGs dont allow that usually, EQ, SWG, asheron call, you have to convince a GM to switch you to another server for whatever reason. I think world passes are free, not 100% sure on that. I know that you can invite 5 friends with a single pass though.
Well the gameis out today. I wont be able to play till a while but impressions should be starting to flood FFXI forums. :cool:

nm apperantly it's out today so crap. I just ordered DAoC Gold and now this comes out... I'll just let you all test it for me and then I'll judge wether or not I'll buy it.

Yeah that part was definitely the best. That whole game is awesome, I have the PSX version, and I think Im gonna get the PC version just to replay it for the 4th time.Quote:

Ok, what's the deal with world passes? I'm considering this game, but what are world passes and do you have to pay for them?
from what I've been reading world passes and server slection seems like a very bad idea and actually getting into the game is hard enough...this comic sums it up:
