If my new GF2MX had worked in my eMachine, none of you would have heard of me...
[CELL VOICE AND MUSIC]But its too late for that now.[/CELL VOICE AND MUSIC]
HAW HAW HAWR!
SF helped me, there were other sources of aid of course but sure SF helped me when I did my first self-build
Yeah, I did mine about 3 years ago and hope to build another this weekend!
I built my rig below with all help from right here at Sharkys-- I never would've imagined it without everyone's help. Before, I was still running a Pentium 166 from '97!
It looks like I'm another statistic:)
February of 2002 is when I built my first rig;)
You got me thinking back... The first PC I made was a 386SX/25 later upgraded with a co-processor (WHOOT!!) Damn was I pissed when it didn't do a damn thing to speed up the system :PQuote:

But I've gained some confidence in my upgrades from being here :)
Well with the help of a tech savvy friend, I built my first pc in 2001, but except for the case that machine is long gone...July this year, got into SF and the high-end guide at SE, and I'm upgrading one or two components at a time. So my second (current) comp is thanx to SF/SE:D
Now if I could just make up my mind about a new mobo...
built my first rig with the help of a friend in the summer of 2000...when i started looking to upgrade i came here for opinions & options.
Absolutely got most recommendations and help here. Turned me on to newegg, epox as well as other pieces which have turned out to be excellent. I continue to browse as I upgrade. Thanks to everyone!
Me, was a 1700+, asus a7n266, g3 ti200, 384mb crucial pc2100. Leet computer it was~
The first computer I've built was way back.
P-2 300Mhz
Biostart mobo

ATI 8MB Card ---> Upgraded to ATI Rage Fury Pro 32MB AGP
THEN
P-3 550Mhz did 633Mhz
Iwill BD100Plus BX440 mobo
128MB SDRAM ---> Upgraded to 256MB
GeForce 2 MX-400 32MB AGP
THEN
Celeron 1.0Ghz Coppermine 128kb cache that did 1.4Ghz 140Mhz FSB
same Iwill BD100Plus BX440 with a socket convertor.
512MB SDRAM
GeForce 4 Ti-4600 :D:D Scored about 83xx on 3DMark01
THEN
Celeron 1.2A Tualatin 256kb cache that did 1.6Ghz 133Mhz FSB
Asus TUSL2-C 815i Mobo
512MB SDRAM
GeForce 4 Ti-4600 Sored 9904 on 3DMark01 :D
THEN
The system in my sig :D:D
The first computer I built was an Intel 486DX from spare parts that I got from asking people for their old computer parts. It was just about the time that the Pentium 200 was the chip to have.
The first system I built with new parts had a PII400. I remember a couple days after building the system the PII500 was released. The system had 128Mb of RAM, a 2.5Gb HDD, and a 2X CDRW that would only burn coasters.
After that one was a Athlon 900 system (more of a mobo/proc upgrade) and then my Athlon XP 1700+ system (I'm typing this post on that one).
I joined the forum between the Athlon 900 and XP 1700+ systems. While I didn't learn much in terms of how to build a system, I learned a lot about what parts are good and bad. I look back at my first few systems now and see the glaring errors in hardware selection I made. That happens no more thanks to Sharky Forums!
I think I came here around the time I'd replaced a few parts in my P2 300 with a P3 600 CPU, more memory, etc.
Don't recall looking for much help in doing that but I did get a great deal of help from Sharkys when I built my next one from scratch.
I've done another 3 since then and have always used this site when choosing parts as well as getting advice on installing. I like to think I've been of some small help to other members too on occasion.
Nope, but when I built my second computer, I got tons of help and therefore it is much better than the first.:)
i SHOULD have came here....but i built 2 computers before i landed here.
I just built my first machine a couple of months ago, largely through the use of Sharkey's guides and reading the forum. It went together smoothly and has worked great.
Abit NF7-S, AMD 2500+
Built the machine in my sig with teh help of Sharky's (although I believe the NF7-S was MY idea :P)...can't believe its been half a year already....now if I could just get a decent overclock WITHOUT windows corruption
I lurked at Sharkys gathering information for my first build. Once it was done and working I joined up and joined in. That was years ago now.
I did it all by myself when I was 13. I never saw it as being hard at all, I just did it.
in the summer of '02, i had tons of free time while my molecular dynamics models crunched away. i got bored as hell, and stumbled upon the forums here at Sharky. that summer i got hooked on hardware.
i finally have some money (and my Dell just isn't cutting it anymore), and my new PC is on its way from newegg. "thank you" to everyone here who helped me learn the ropes over the last 18 months.
i did. :) i had just built my first computer when i found sharkys, but since i didn't know what i was doing (still don't :p ) it wasn't very overclocker-friendly. so i sold a few things, got some good parts, and that was that. sharkys rules. :D
Not me.
I built my first machine back in 1975 or 76. An Altair 8080.
I didn`t, but I have been building and upgrading my computer, with the advice of sharky members after I joined.
500Hz homebuilt. Very nice.Quote:

I guess I can't use the, "Anything less would be so....dot matrix." line for this one.
;)
