I went from a 4400 to a 9800 (Pro). I don't overclock it, but the difference is amazing. You'll handle any game.

Yep, went from Ti4200 to 9700np ($198!!)...quite a treat - and for some unknown reason, C4 went from Myst-like to playable!!:DQuote:

you got a 9700pro for $199? Where?
Look at what he wrote a little closer.Quote:

As was referenced, it was a PowerColor 9700np from gameve.com. Got it maybe 4 mos. ago for $191 + shipping.....Quote:

If its so good going from a Ti4400, I can't wait to see how much better my Herc 9800np is than my old GF3Ti200 LOL
I've heard people say it comes with Samsung 2.8, and others say the 3.3, anyone know? It has RAM sinks stuck on with thermal epoxy, so no easy way to tell when I get it in a couple of days :(
But have heard all good OCing stories with this card. Have to see how it goes, good luck with yours :)
my 9800np had2.8ns sammy ram so i had no doubts it could flash to 9800pro! :DQuote:

You finally did it??? Yes this is a thread that brought me to post a message in 2 weeks :D
So when did Circuit City start to accept food stamps? :D How many stamps did it take to buy that card :D
Was it on layaway? :D

BTW, is the 3ns Infineon any good? Or is that 3ns comparable to the Sammy 3.3ns? I never really bothered to read up on it as I got lucky with the sammy.
yeah yeah yeah ;pQuote:

Dont worry I am going back into hiding :) I have been playing Call of Duty now for almost a week... (I like taking it nice and slow and experience the game :D) Rather then just blaze through it... I am also playing so I will have the most amount of soldiers alive :)
Well back into the mist I go!
I've been trying to do that as well, lol. I keep quicksaving every 5 secs so once they get slaughtered I can reload and try and save their arse :p. I'm digging the game so far though.Quote:

Guess we're getting alittle OT now so I will leave it at that ;) (Probably not to smart to hijack a moderators thread :D)
Nah, I wouldn't do anything like that to Colossus, since I started this anyway. I don't dish it out if I can't take it.
Andy by the way Colossus, I did both layaway and food stamps. :p
Okay guys, need some suggestions here. The card seems to be topping out at 365/330. Anything above this and I start getting a little text corruption on the 3DMark menu, and I get missing textures in the bench itself.
Do you guys find that setting AGP 8x and sideband address in the BIOS is a limiting factor? The VAGP voltage is already maxed in the BIOS.
Two things:
1] Sig change time
2] Although I don't have your card or an 8x mobo many people do seem to report improved stability and slightly further OC'd with a]4x over 8x b] no sidebanding and c]the pro bios
I'll have to try moving down to 4x and turn off SBA to see if it helps. I know the Pro BIOS is supposed to increase the voltages to help with the higher clock speeds, but right now I'm hesitant to do that because the card doesn't seem to come close to Pro speeds as it is, and I don't know that the voltage increase is going to be enough.Quote:

Oh, and sig is changed. :)
thats really wierd that you can only get that to 360 on the core i did 366 on mine and i stoped cuase i had no reason to go further and mine was still quite cool and no artifacts im running mine with 4x AGP and sba and fast writes both enabled
Its all in good fun :)Quote:

I think I forgot to say congrats, so congrats on coming to the year 2003 in hardware :D
I havent heard of any stability with 4x over 8x... But some 8x AGP Boards were flakey so they did lower it to 4x... But that was more of a compatability problem...
Did you clean out the drivers or did you do a clean format? I would assume a regedit and automatic/manual clean...
Part of the problem with the NP is the overclock ability's on the BIOS.. I have heard a lot of positive things when they flashed to a PRO bios... But you might want to save your old BIOS first, for disaster recovery...
Good luck!
i had the same 9800np as you have, but have since gotten rid of it. mine also had the same ram. my max oc was 420/331, thats with everything turned down and running 3dmark. the card must have had a monster gpu cause it overclocked the same as the 9800 pro card i now have.
I uninstalled the drivers and software through add/remove programs, then used the Windows 2K add/remove hardware utility to remove all traces of the hardware, then ran a manual check of the registry, and other than mobo drivers, it came up clean. I don't think drivers are the issue because with CPU o/c as it was before, then a default VC setting the first run of 3DMark was over 16K, so...Quote:

All in all it doesn't really matter. I do follow my own advise. I did my research and the BBA ATi cards seemed to be very consistent with o/c, but I also was willing to accept what I bought assuming it wouldn't o/c a single MHz.
My R8500LELE (230/230)would do only about 255/255 using powerstrip. The BIOS flash I used had a option of flashing to various core/mem settings, so I flashed it to 250/250, them with power strip it would do about 280/280. Flashed to the retail 275/275 and it been setting there for 18 + months now. It will OC to about 300/300.Quote:

Have you played any real games yet instead of benchmarking? Did you up the quality from your standard GF4 settings? Such as a higher res or enabled AA/AF, etc?
How do you like the Radeon over the nVidia?
i went from a 9700pro to a 9800pro and thought the difference was noticable
Also bought a 9800 NP from Circuit City late last week so it should be coming in today. Finally get to ditch my Ti200!
BBA? PBA? What's the brand? I would like to know as I wanna know what brand OCs best. ;) When you've tried an ATI 9500Pro and above card, you won't even miss your Ti200.;) Have fun with the card!:DQuote:
