Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 both have the frame rate issue because they're the first games to use fully dynamic shadows and lighting, no other game does this, even Farcry uses a mixture of static/fixed lighting and dynamic lighting, and even then only a one or two dynamic lights are ever displayed. As any 3D engine programmer will tell you fully dynamic lights and shadows eats through a graphics cards fill-rate faster than a fat police officer eats through donuts! There's no other way around this, you need a fast graphics card, or run the game at a lower res than what you're use to, or simply find someway to turn off the dynamic shadows and lighting. Doom III will probably be the same, and no doubt people will blame the Xbox porting for it's crappy performance when running on a Geforce 4 @ 1600x1200!!!!
Can we please stop blaming Xbox porting/poor optimisations/crappy 3D engine/crappy developer and so on!!!
No, we can't...that's a great thing to blame! :D
