Shame though, the game is really meant to be played with Shadows on... it looks simply jaw-dropping.
On my system below, I ran some tests...
The only tweaks I did were:
ENABLE triple-buffering in the ATI control panel thing (this made a HUGE increase for me)
VSYNC is off (in Doom3 menu)
and
seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "128"
seta image_cacheMinK "20480"
(numbers were taken from 2nd test since the first is always slower)
800x600, high quality, no AA, 8xAF = 45fps
800x600, high quality, 2xAA, 8xAF = 39fps
1024x768, high quality, no AA, 8xAF = 39fps
I didn't even bother with AA @ 1024x768 cuz it already looked so good! I am simply amazed at the programming of the id team... this game is JAW-DROPPING...
I play this game as dark as possible, so I am CONSTANTLY switching between my flashlight and weapon... oh, and I play in the middle of the night too... that alone sets the mood perfectly for this game!!!
I must say, BEFORE the tests I had triple buffering DISABLED and VSYNC (in the doom3 menu) ON and my fps @ 800x600, high quality, no AA, 8xAF were 23fps...
So you can see I gained significant frames from doing those two simple tweaks... VSYNC seems to really lower my FPS for some reason, so I just leave it disabled...
Currently I am playing 800x600, high quality, no AA, 8xAF, since it's my computer's 'sweet spot'. The gameplay is incredible smooth and I'll take that ANYDAY over a higher resolution.
Damn... all this talk about D3 now and I must go play!!! :D
Hey, that's pretty nice! What rez where you gettting 26.5FPS?Quote:

640 :p
But seems like resolution don't change fps much... so I am counting on 15~20 at 1024 :)
Cool! Soup strikes again.;)
So I just read that thing about shadows over at rage3d (thread in the sticky in General Games Sharky)... man, looks like I'll be playing with shadows off.
Maybe I can stay above 15 :o
And you didn't believe old Soup about the shadows?;)
Yeah, the shadows cost me 5FPS and I don't really notice the difference with them off.
Hey! You bought Bose before, I ain't gonna take every word you say :D
Ok, 640x480 shadows off only , 17.5fps... nearly double the performance that with shadows on
Haha...touche!:DQuote:

Do you miss the shadows if you disable them?
Not really, I have to look for them.
Yup, same here. I can't believe they suck that much resources. In almost all of my games, I always disable shadows out of habit.
