I think Co-Op with like 16 players can be a hoot. For deathmatch, I guess I'd prefer to stick to 8 or less, but whoever is in charge of hosting the game usually picks how many they allow to join, so...

I think by the time that Quake 4 gets released they probably would have used some of the source code from Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil which apparently will boost Doom 3's maximum player count, and Raven has modded id engines before, they will do a great job of modding Quake 4. Its early but they will deliver a good game....I just wish Activision would give Raven a chance to make a new Heretic/Hexen game off of the Doom 3....oh man.
One point that might have been missed early on too: Doom3 and Quake4 are both id games. What would you expect them to use? License another engine? Spend another 4 years developing a new one just for Q4?
At least we won't have to sign up on STEAM just to play the thing. :DQuote:

Yeah, I was just reading the whole HL2/STEAM thread and it's kind of lost on me. Last time I was an online junkie, we were all playing Quake2 using GameSpy. Easy and Free. Now there's this STEAM thing (which I gather is like Battle.net?) and something about PunkBuster. I'm not sure if GameSpy even still exists, but it seemed like a good tool to me. But Quake2 was/is probably one of the most pirated games of all time, so I can see why there's a desire to do some kind of authentication for online play. But there's got to be a balance somewhere.Quote:
