Just curious as to how you can compare HL2 and Q3? One is Single-Player focused, the other is multi-player focused.Quote:

As you know, Valve has been disabling the accounts that tried using the "priated" copy of the game. There was a way to preload a game by entering a certain cerial number.
Well basically I entered the number just to see if it would work. I was planning to buy the game anyways, so I was just curious. I entered the cerial number and it said that its valid and that I can preload.
I didnt want to do that, because I wanted to buy the game legitemately. I logged 2 days later and it said that the CD-Key is disabled. I then went ahead and bought bronze version of the game. I had an idea cross my mind that I should create a new steam account, but then I thought that nothihng would happen.
After playing Half Life 2 and counter strike source for a few days there was a problem. Whenever I typed my username and password in it said that the account was disabled. I went to steam forums and found out that valve disabled all accounts who tried using that CD-Key... 50 dollars lost.....
This ofcource shocked and saddened me because I am 17 years old and currently do not have a job. The interesting thing is that I have numerous games that are pirated. I even managed to make some work online. But I believed that this game would be special and that I should go ahead and buy it and support the developers.
I know that most of you will say that I was trying to steal something and that I should go to jail for stealing. Maybe I was stealing games in the past, by not buying previous games, but THIS game, I wasnt actually trying to steal and this is what I get. [/QUOTE
Look I'm sure your a nice kid but what you did was stealing. You even admitted to it with past games. You play these pirated games on the backs of people who have paid for their games.Value sees you as a thief and as seeing you as a thief they rightfully so, want nothing to do with you.Even if you have now paid for the game.I'm not making a judgement on you I'm just telling you how any Company would look at you.Sorry :(

sorry had to fix that for ya ;)
and this gets a big HA HA. My buddy had the same thing happen to him last night. Rather funny. I am sure if you buy the game and contact valve they might hook you up, but who knows :)
They should. They have absolutely no legal standing taking your money and denying the product.
ha, pirating noob.
The method you tried does actually work, quite well. Just gotta make sure to unplug your ethernet and never get back online (with that account)
With the online mods for HL2, its almost impossible to get the full exprience without buying it.
The more threads like this I see, the gladder I am I didn't buy the game ^^.
And to all those who claim that no fully working pirated copies are in circulation: would you like to come over and play with me? Didn't pay a damn cent for it. And I'm glad, because it's a fairly good game, but DEFINITELY not worth all the hassle. I just think a lot of people have been brainwashed by the hype machine... go figure. I would feel seriously stupid for having spent $50+ on it.
And I don't usually show off pirated copies. Hell, I don't usually condone piracy. But with the monster Valve has wrought*, it's only natural that they reap what they've sown. The more problems they get, the better.
*Steam, not HL2
I'm not too crazy bout a few things. I know where your getting to, but it's a bit more then that.Quote:

Maybe the story isn't grasping me quite yet, but I am regretting the purchase. Perhaps I'll get into it a bit more. Also the loads are just stupid lol :(
I'll play it a bit more, but first impression made me think twice about my purchase...
you are cool. your epenis must be huge.Quote:

Look, I don't see why so many people have a problem with it. I preloaded the game before it was released, came home, put my CD key in, let it decrypt, and was playing within 15 minutes. That's just about how long it would take to install the game with the CDs. The only thing I don't like is having to connect to Steam everytime I want to play a game...
My biggest gripe about the game like everyone else is that the amount of time it takes when I click on the shortcut HL2 to the time Im actually playing is ridiculous. I know I can have steam load with windows but im the person who will have as little processes running as possible. They should have had steam authenticate or whatever while the game is going through the intro. Other than this, game is awsome.
I agree 100%. The initial load sucks.Quote:

My question is, what's going to happen to HL2 in five years? Is Valve going to be running Source servers dedicated to supporting the initial connection process? If they are, aren't they going to lose money on the upkeep of that infrastructure that's on par with what they'll theoretically lose to piracy? I understand the need for the validation process, don't get me wrong; it's just that I don't think this is a long term solution for them. I'm guessing an official Valve patch will come out that'll allow you to play the game sans-Source in the next year.
I knew that it works. It did work for me. I started to preload the game just to see if it would work. I KNEW that I was gonna buy the game. I just wanted to see if there really was a way to download it. Once it started to download, I clicked cancel. A few days later I bought the game. I feel that even if I did try to pirate their game(which I didnt), so what, I paid for it later. They got their money.Quote:

I dont know, I am just sad that this happened to me. And for a very stupid reason. If i just created a new account and bought the game there, this would never have happened. Valve is not punishing those who tried stealing their game, but those who tried stealing and bought the game later. Those who stole the game dont care, they downloaded the pirated version and are playing right now.
So basically they are punishing those who are kind of in the middle between being a pirate and a good customer. I dont understand why they would do that....
Because I'd bet you never, ever try to mess around with pirating another game from Valve again.Quote:

Still, what Valve is doing can't be legal. He paid for the product, and is not getting it. Were it purchased via credit card, I'd dispute the charge.
More likely it causes him to never legitimately use any of their software.Quote:

If you stole a candy bar from a store then came back later because you felt guilty or whatever and paid for the candy and even admit to it. He can still press charges. You did the crime, and Im sorry that you were banned... I would contact their support line and see if they can trafter the paid HL2 to another steam account.
I got a free download with my 9800 XT, so I didn't actually buy the game.
Does that make me a pirate? :p

I feel angry at the whole system, I just feel like I will never pay for any game ever again. I feel like taking half life and copying it and distributing it for free to all of my friends. I will obvously not do that, but Im sure that someone will.
Stop being so angry, Im sure that I will still buy games and everything. But I will really have to think about buying anything from valve ever again.
The part that he was referring to was not being able to use the PURCHASED copy.Quote:

I think what you're trying to say is that it was "overhyped"???

But, the game is good. Just not as good as some people would have you think.
If I never bought it I really would not be missing anything.
It's not that great. But it is pretty good.
