Dell 9300 owners report in

I just ordered yesterday, and should have it late next week. Here is my config

PM1.73GHZ
256DDR2+1GB From newegg
17" WUXGA Truelife
6800 Go
60GB 5400RPM
DL DVD 8X Burner
Intel 2200 B/G Wireless card
1year + at home service

With tax and shipping 1450;) Not bad, and I really can not complain about the price B/C everything eles around this price only has a 6600 or X700. 12 pipes vs 8 pipes is no contest. I will do a full review and make a new thread. This has become my desktop replacment till everything settles. With Dual Cores PP chips, Crossfire, SLI, ect...

Mine should arrive tomorrow, I was originally going to cancel it and wait for an XPS 2 but the more I think about it, the more I'm planning on keeping it. Dell have upgraded the warranty to three year onsite next business, which is worth 200 pounds plus vat and I'm sure the 6800go will still be reasonable for gaming, I think I'm better putting the money I've saved towards my next laptop.

The drivers I used were from the link below:

I used the 76.50 from the site.
You can also use the ExtremeG drivers that are found at guru3d.com.
As for which is better, hard to decide. Last time I checked many had a preference for the ones from laptopvideo2go.com. With VC drivers the tides change a lot, so who knows. Give them botha try if you like. You will find that these two are the two most recommended for NVIDIA. for ATI, the OMEGAS

Is it true you have to download a program to convertthe inf files from the desktop drivers to laptop ones?

Mine came in yesterday, and the extra ram came today. Expect a review soon with pictures. I am very happy with the display but the whites are not good but its torable. I did get an LG screen and the colors are great. I think I will hang onto it. And for people say Dells are poorly made, from what I can tell, there XPS Gen 2 and 9300 are built very well. Besides the screen, the machine is almost perfect.(Please note I am not a picky persion.)

Note my LG has no light leakage:cool:

For the one's a provided a link for, yes. The ExtremeG, no.

The "light leakage" is only apparent on the very sides of the screen when looking at an ALL black screen

How do you investigate the manufacture of the screen?

by looking the screen. If you have sparkles, its an LG, if the color look dull its a samsung. Also Powerstrip will tell you.

Yes you are corect, also you can see if watching a movie in the dark. If you are thinking of getting one, just do it. You will not regret it.

just a few questions
1. ive herd that if you download new drivers for the go 6800 it messes up doom3. if somone down loaded a new driver that works well can you post a link for it.
2. i got the screen with a resolution of 1440x900. can doom3 be set to play at that resolution. if not can i mod it some how so it can and if so can you tell me how.
3. i have the 9cell badery if im playing doom 3 what is my badery life like.

Yes cause you only have two memory slots. You will have to remove one of your 512 sticks to put in the 1gig stick.

If I were you I would order the 9300 with either just one 256 or 512 and buy a 1 gig stick later from newegg it will be alot cheaper then buying the ram from dell direct.

I have already ordered the laptop now... I just upgraded to 1GB without the hassle of finding and installing myself.... I have no interest on my DPA until January so I will just pay it off over time....

I received my i9300 yesterday. I am quite dissappointed. I have major backlight leakage along the bottom of the screen.

Also I didn't receive any software CDs with my package. The only CD that came with my laptop was a Word Perfect CD. Was I not supposed to receive a CD with Diags and Drivers, and maybe even a Windows XP OEM CD?

I know I am calling and demanding CDs when I get free time today, hope I get someone that I can understand :o

I was disappointed, or maybe unaccustomed(????) when my lappy came like this.
The backlight leakage will reduce and you will get use to it to a point that it doesn't even bother you OR you'll hate it and need to return it. I say give it a week and decide.
The CDs you're asking for are actually in the HD. I forget how you can access them, but it's very easy.
The Windows XP CD is also in the HD, you can use a software in Windows that DELL provided to create the CD. I also forget how to do this. Calling up DELL will give you both these answer with ease.
After sometime I realized that I didn't care for these CDs. Instead i've put all the data that would have come on CDs into a single DVD (which also has WInXP)

I have already noticed a reduction in the backlight leakage within 1 day... I was trying to show my girlfriend and it had already improved :cool:

I just want to install Windows XP without all the crap DELL puts on their systems... Half the stuff is a memory hog and it bloats the system down. I need a XP Laptop with my basic programs and maybe a few games... None of this Quickbooks, MusicMatch or Norton Security crap... A basic installation of NAV will fix me up...

I am fixing to search for a howto to get these files off the hard drive and on to a CD/DVD....

I just got through chatting with Dell Support. I actually had no problems getting a rep at 2 a.m. :rofl:

They are shipping me all the software CDs and they said I could correct the backlight issue anytime during my warranty. So I am probably just going to wait a month or so before I decide to send it back for a replacement. I wish I had on-site warranty. I hate sending in my laptops...

Regarding the CDs. When buying a Latitude model, you get the cds (at least you have the option not to). And regarding the on site, well you should have bought extended warranty. Check if you can buy extended warranty. Don't want your $1,000+ laptop crappy on you after the first year.

There is no Latitude version of the 9300/XPS2 however or anything close. You can usually get the cds out of Dell if you ask nicely with an Inspiron (I have all the cds for my XPS 2) or just create them yourself with the Dell utilities.

How do you compare the dell truelife 17" screen to gateways 17" truebright screen?

I want to get a 17" notebook and liked the 17" screen I seen at bestbuy (I will probably order from gateway thou since I want to do some customazation).

what about the nvda card compared to the x700 ati card?
