Am starting to realize how immature vista is now. I been using it for about a week and its just becoming more and more of a search to get something to work.
Encoding is just a pain in the *** i dont know how much more i could take of this.
Funny thing is that the Visat64 build feels better. was a pain to get drivers and many programs won't install but the OS seems more stable.
MS should know by now to release buggy OS,is not in their best interest.
I just finished playing around with the 64-bit version on an old IBM ATA100 drive. There was a TON of activity...a Raptor would be very nice. In my opinion, the performance is not up to par. I understand that it is a beta, the x64 beta version I tried was very much inferior, but I think the OS is just trying to do too much. I feel like a lot of things need to be disabled...like User Account Control, the Help program, and Security Center.
I even went back to the older interface and got rid of Sidebar. With my system, I just don't have 50+ MBs of RAM for a couple of Gadgets. Windows Explorer crashed a few times and Vista's response was to restart Explorer. It happened while I was installing Office (which is pretty sweet), but the install completed without a problem. That was nice.
It seems like there are a lot of failsafes built into the OS. That's awesome for the people who hate turning off their computer, but I do so every night.
Most of what I have said probably doesn't make much sense, but Vista in one word is...overwhelming? It will be a sweet OS though.
I couldn't install my Audigy 2 either.
The Audigy 2 can be installed if you download the beta 64 driver from creative and work with it. It was a bear for me to do.
Build 5456 availible at the usual sources.:D will post pics and results soon.
I hate that computer went into sleep mode by defualt i kept thinking somethings wrong with my comp. lmao.
Weedkiller420, from what I read 5456 is a SUBSTANTIAL improvement over the public beta. Will it be released to the public?
Doubt it. The improvements will probably be released in their next public beta.Quote:

Can't compare it against WinXP tho, its loaded on my Server, not main system.
How did you guys that have the Audigy sound card get it to work? I downloaded the vista drivers from the website, but couldn't get it to work.
Vonstab: I'm at another machine so I'll try to give you the steps. Go to the start- computer-properties-device manager and highlight one of the yellow devices that is uninstalled. Hit update drivers, choose the option for installing your own drivers, select sound device then search for the creative technology entry. (I assume you installed the beta driver with no luck). Then choose the audigy driver and click OK. Took awhile to install.
Battlefield 2 and BF Special Forces both installed and played OK on Vista 32.
Starship Troopers won't run on Vista
Cyber, what other games have you tried to install?
I purchased a new harddrive to install Vista on. The installation went fine and it booted into Vista without any problems. I was able to mess around with it for awhile, but decided to install Office 2007 to get a feel for it. After that installed, it suggested a reboot. After rebooting, both my USB mouse and keyboard do not respond at the login prompt. Has anyone experienced this? I know that with Windows XP, the keyboard (G15) does not turn on until my computer boots into XP and is not available before hand. I was able to remove the Vista harddrive and swap back to the XP one and everything worked fine.
Have you tried std keyboard and mouse? My USB mouse worked and I had installed Office 2007.
I will try that next. I've been busy, so I haven't had much time to dig out my old keyboard.
For those of you that haven't figured it out yet, you can turn off the bothersome permissive window that appears everytime you try to do something by clicking your start button, going to administrative tools option, picking system configuration. Click once on the disable UAP line and in below window you can copy and paste the cmd.exe info. Click the launch tab and will give you dos window you can paste the info in. Here is the info to paste: cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Syst em /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
put that info in and hit enter.copy it just like it's written with caps and spaces. its worked just fine for me. You will get warning flag on your security because they consider the UAP as part of the securtiy. I sure am glad to get rid of the annoying permissive window!!
I find it amusing that Vista complains about it's built in drivers slowing down the boot process. heh
*Edit: Also, I hate to admit it, but I like the new 3D accelerated Freecell and Solitare.
