Actually quite a few sites were running with the story. And so I was right. Someone heard that ATI would not be part of the corporate name and put their own spin on it. Anything to get page views these days eh? ;)

I think AMD PR Dept should hire Mr. T to promote the "A" Team - AMD+ATI ;)
AMD Rage quad core opteron 64 bit reverse hyperthreading CGPU AM2 sure would sound solid :)
would it sound weird if the ATi name ever existed? you'll get used to it, quit crying
but i will miss the ATi brand name :(
I hope AMD at least made ATi breakfast in the morning.
It's not going away for a while. ;)Quote:

Whether it's ATI or AMD we'll get use to it especially if it means lower prices. Remember everyone at Sharkys complaining about the Revolution's name change to Wii. The name is not going to matter if the ATI/AMD or ATMID hardware is better than its competitor.
I still think Wii is a terrible name. :|
I dont care what they call it, I buy nvidia :p
j/k, I buy whatever wins the benchies at the time I wish to purchase. I really don't care though.
So instead of ATI red, will they use AMD orange?
I buy on price vs. value. I think part of the fun of this hobby is getting the most for the least :)
I hope they stay with red because an orange PCB is just ugly. I can take a name change but not an orange PCB that's where I draw the line.Quote:

Guess it could have been worse. They could have decided to just merge the two names for real. Can you imagine if you had to tell people your computer had AID's in Crossfire? ;)
i thought they backpeddalled on this idea?
its a stupid move imho, u waste All the brand recognition and goodwill in the ATI name
They never pedalled in the first place. :pQuote:

I'm relieved to hear it was a hoax, I like ATi a lot. Beside, it's good marketing. The grabbing red and white logo is better suited to a graphics card box, and everyone knows that "T" is sexier than "D." Back when TOYODA, the sowing machine company, decided to start making cars, they were told by a marketing consaultent to change the name to TOYOTA. Good move, I think. Ok, /rant off.
Also, I just found the manual for an old Rage128 card that I had in a 133mhz pc, and even then I recognized the ATi logo.
