Having some battery issues....seems to drain awful quick. Perhaps it's leaving wi-fi on all the time. Some are reporting that the battery discharges when the Droid is off. And by 'off' I don't mean is sleep mode but a hard off. I've got my phone all charged up and off now and will check tomorrow morning at battery level.
A handset is never fully off unless the battery is removed otherwise it is in sleep mode.
Battery stayed 100% this morning (after being off for 10 hours). DL'd a bunch of apps and widgets and have all three screens filled with shortcuts. I'm sure there is stuff leaking out there though I checked my battery info page and it seems that 'display' and 'wi-fi' are easily the biggest drains. So I turned wifi off when not using it and set display to auto brightness. I'll just need to spend some time getting used to these devices.....my last phone was an LG Dare.
Wi-fi will burn battery like mad if you leave it on at all times. Whenever you aren't around an AP it just loops constantly broadcasting trying to find access points. Throwing power bar widget on a screen and just enabling wifi and bluetooth when you need them saves battery power in wholesale. One other thing to watch out for is rss/atom readers and email apps and twitter apps etcetera. Leaving one or two going on decent 15+ minute intervals is a great thing, but a bunch of them installed can kill battery time on any phone.
I don't even bother turning on WiFi on my Droid... Verizon's network is so fast, that the 3G speeds are good enough for what I do with my phone.Quote:

Yeah, I'm getting a handle on battery issues. I did have wifi on all the time so that's the first thing I nixed. Turned down brightness. Increased notification intervals of the apps I use alot (eg, Twitter), and installed advanced task killer to see what was running. Battery is much better now. Also have an issue that I work in a large building where the signal is not great so that hurts battery power a bit. Anyway, I'm new to these phones so I'm climbing the learning curve here.Quote:

Not bad, but not really great. For 120 I could get the same for 2 lines + 600 more min on sprint.
Yea Sprints everything plan is $99/month for unlimited talk, text, and data. Verizons $99/month plan is only 450mins.Quote:

Yea I figured that issue was just a matter of time, but I still greatly prefer a physical keyboard to an onscreen one. I guess Ill have to stop by the Sprint store one of these days and see how awful typing with an onscreen KB and if its worth dealing with to enjoy the cheaper plan.Quote:

I accidentally dropped my 4 year old phone and broke the screen, so I just bought this one. Gets here on Tuesday. This is like my first cool gadget thing so I'm kind of excited.
It's THE gadget of gadgets. Today I was shopping for a reciprocating saw at Lowe's. Out of stock. Type in "Lowe's" in Google.....click to put the results on a map. And there I am on the map (GPS located) with Lowe's stores also on the map....click on the dot, up comes the phone number, click to dial the number. Holy chit cool beans! And that's the tip of the iceberg.
Do you have any recommended screen protectors or cases? I got the ones offered by Verizon, as the stuff I saw on Amazon didn't look very good.

Ive had sprint for many many years. In my area they are great, I can't remember a dropped call.
I always use the PSP ones from EB Games on my electronic stuff but I bought the Verizon 3 pack when I bought the Droid. They are too thin and sticky. I used up two of them because of dust particles getting under them and still ended up with one dust mote on the 3rd try. When it annoys me enough I will take it off and put a PSP protector on there.Quote:

It's probably going to need a constant net connection in case you miss a turn and it needs to recalculate. I doubt it stores any map information on the device. It is from Google after all, the same company that's making an OS that's completely useless without an internet connection. I don't think they have any qualms about making a navigation app that requires constant access.
It saves maps and voice directions to your sd card when you set a destination but haven't seen anyone put it to a hard test of changing mid-route while it's connection is lost.
Google Maps on my WM6 phone does that, but I know if you need to recalculate it automatically reconnects to the net. I don't see how it couldn't, it doesn't store anything more than the information that shows your exact route.Quote:
