I like the whole hacking process much better overall. I played more tonight, it's pretty much the same as the original. No worse, and about 10-20 % improved.
If you're a bioshock fan, definitely get this.

Will be hitting the local game store later today for this game, I love the first, hope this one lives up to the hype....
I went downtown three hours ago and purchased the game. Admiring the case as I'm writing. Going to install it and try it later tonight. :)
Played a bit last night. Fun, story seems interesting, very happy to be back in Rapture. Feeling like the game is a little too linear currently but I'm hoping that changes.
The Big Sister identity theory:
Spoiler
Tried MP last night and met with some pretty ridiculous lag. Was I just unlucky or is the netcode terrible?
I haven't tried out multiplayer but chances are the host was really bad.
Seems like it should have been an add-on to Bioshock. Same graphics and game play as before. They changed the keys (not sure why) but I have a tendency to use my healthpacks by accident. I'm at the part where you harvest the 2nd dead body but can't get past it. The game mechanics suck so that if you blow your money and ammo and don't make it, it's pretty hard to get a descent supply of aid kits and ammo to try again.
If you take 3 years to release a sequel, it should have some new graphics/game mechanics.
Why?
You are going back to Rapture, I for one am very happy they didn't jump the shark and stuck to the old story line and expanded on it.
Things I don't like are...
The Wide Screen FOV debacle
The crappy textures, close up the game looks worse than the original
And how it seems to be a lot shorter than the first game, but I'm not finished so I really can't comment on that with authority.
And that's it.
Things I love are...
The great new weapons and plasmids
The very well done story line
How much fun it is to be a big daddy and carry around a little sister and protect her from waves of slicers. When I find a adam "angel" I always spend time setting up turrets, mines and electric cables and then let the splicer horde wash over me.
The new hacking tools and mini-game
I wasn't gonna play BS2 becoz it looked like crap in EyeFinity mode, the image looked magnified. I searched around and found an FOV fix from default of 70/75 to 130, looks so much better. Though I've read of some having issues with the game, it runs pretty good for me w/o crash or lag.
In terms of new game play mechanics, I found BS2 to be a big improvement on the original. You can now dual wield a plasmid and weapon, traps play a much larger role, there are more environmental "dangers", hacking has been completely redone, and little sisters play a more prominent role with game progression and plot choices.
If your running out of ammo and money early I think the problem may be with ow your playing the game. Try some different tactics. If your not using traps then use them. Take advantage of the environment.
noworries: I just completed that level ten minutes ago. Harvesting that second body was really difficult! I kept on dying and dying, and the splicers managed to destroy the health station AND the turret, so I was at my wits end at some point. After a while I had no choice but to proceed through the map. Luckily I found enough money to buy 2 health packs, so I returned and finally managed to whack all the splicers and get the ADAM. It was extremely challenging though.
Game just crashed on me when loading Dionysus Park. =/
So far, I've just reached Amusement Park to get the flame plasmid, no issue whatsoever. Been over at Steam forums, seems that many are having lotsa issue, from crashes, to game failing to start, to DRM issue.....happy that things are working out for me thus far.
Same here 0 issues... you have to remember the people with no problems are not the ones who post at the forums, they are too busy playing the game.
And a lot of the DRM and GFWL *****ing is from people who just flat out hate them. I'm not a fan either but as long as I can play the game I'm not going to make a stink over it.
exactly. I had one lock up after many hours of playing. I think it was caused by my soundblaster. I got a cycling sound loop, which froze up the game.
Otherwise it runs fine everytime.
LOL!:D I won't comment on this, but there seems to be a little bug with the game. On loading a level, or continuing the game after powering up, I do notice that FR isn't good at all. early 20's, but after a few seconds, it goes up to 50fps to >60fps. Really weird, but I suppose I can't complain since I'm running it @5760x1200.;)
I've had several lockups, one took place right as I was autosaving the next level, so I had to redo the entire level (hadn't had to save for anything). The story was quite the parallel to Bioshock for a while - a few "events" are exactly the same. I was disappointed in the plasmids; I had hoped for some more variety. The weapons are excellent. Haven't tried multiplayer.
Finished it in 2 sittings. Very impressed, far more so than the original.
As with Wurm, excellent weapons, excellent story, better hacking. Tighter but more linear level design. Atmosphere intact and improved in places.
Dual wielding is a godsend. Powers evolve in very interesting ways, I can't stress this enough, a power doesn't only get more powerful, it gets more useful as well.
Near the end game I stuck to chucking security bots and spam plasmids at everything in my way. I would then berserk with the drill on the enemies lucky enough to get close. This was made possible with the Drill Specialist gene tonic. Drop use of ranged weapons for drills and really cheap plasmids ? Yes, please.
Research camera is much more fun to use now. The build up to the end was very well executed as well.
Frankly, well worth the cash in my opinion. The novelty of being a big daddy doesn't wear off even till halfway through. The .50 cal minigun is so good, that it only needs the damage upgrade from base to stay viable throughout the game.
Loved the good ending! Just beat it a few mins ago.
