Aye, it be just for gold!
I haven't gotten to runes and such, but the customization doesn't look too overwhelming. The most enjoyable part for me so far is the atmosphere Blizzard has been able to build. The art in the game is fantastic and the voice acting is top notch.
I beat the beta. It looks like there are 5 main bosses in the game. The beta goes until right after you beat the first one. I'd say it took me 2-3 hours to get to the first boss. It looks like there will be 4 difficulty levels, which will change a lot of stuff during each play through.
One thing I noticed is that crafting is really good. The weapons and armor I crafted were better than anything I picked up, however I was playing on normal so I do not know if crafting scales with the difficulty. I really like the skills and passive perks. You can quickly change your character from an AOE DPS, direct DPS, tank, healer, etc just from going to a shrine and swapping out skills and perks. That means you don't have to spec a certain way and be stuck.
Damn, I just read something kind of bad. It seems that they are doing away with the two items that let you break items down into crafting materials and turn items into gold. Instead, you have to travel back to town to do that. I really liked being able to break down the trash in the dungeon. It had a great flow to it. I hope they reconsider. The last thing I want to do is return to town every 10 mins to empty my inventory.

There's the blog post that's talking about all the changes to the gameplay systems. I don't agree with their stance on needing to send players back to town to sell their items.
This is basically how I feel about this game:

I got into MS's Flight beta (the F2P sequel to Flight Simulator X.) I'm pleasantly surprised! It is like a spiritual successor to Pilot Wings when the physics are lowered for beginners and a full on simulation for enthusiasts when the physics are maxed. They struck a great balance. I won't say any more since it is still under NDA.
24 hours+ and no new reports?
Well, I beat the beta with a Barbarian. I'm planning to try the Demonhunter next. Is there anything you guys want to know more about? I can check it out for you.
Is there a class similar to a trap assassin?
Seems like the Demon Hunter would be the closest.
Quote:
Of the five classes the Demon Hunter was introduced as a character built around ranged combat. They can dual-wield crossbows, launch explosives, place traps, and cast shadow magic (which compliments their dark nature). Due to these capabilities, this class is apparently a combination of both the Amazon and Assassin classes from Diablo II.
Nice! I was doing a bunch of research to find it a while back and they didn't mention anything about traps, but I did find the Demon Hunter to be the closest. Now that I know she has traps that will be who I use! Timman-The "trap assassin" is a certain build used with assassin which lays little sentry gun type things around shooting anything from flame to lightning, to just pure death.
I tried out a witchdoctor yesterday. It handles a lot like the necromancer. Level 2 unlocks a powerful summon that commands 3 hell hounds. They don't do much damage but they create a wall in front that hardly any enemies can get through. They have a ton of hp too, so I sat back and launched my attacks from behind.
It seems like a pretty fun class to play.
Something I experienced last night was a little disheartening though. I had some lag in the single player portion. I highly doubt it was my computer hardware, but my internet connection. I did not know your position and actions were all checked by blizzard servers in single player.
Then I realized there isn't single player. I was actually on a server that was set to private. I thought the game authenticated and then let you play, but it seems it constantly checks what you are doing.
This would be fine, but I did experience lag so I was a little put off by it.
Jeez, that is annoying, as if it isn't bad enough that you need an internet connection to play single player, now you have to experience lag? They better get that fixed.
Tim, have you tried a character that uses a bow.crossbow yet? Do you know if it's a viable build, or if it's comparable to other builds? I was a bowazon fan, in d2, I'm hoping it's not really underpowered
If you think about it for 1.2345234231431543143215423147657436892354 seconds it's not that cool anymore. It is rather impractical and childish.
I'm kind of intrigued by this game, but then again not. I know if I started playing it, my enthusiasm would wane in a week and it would collect e-dust on my hard-drive for the next 2-3 years before I would just delete it. RPGs in general are just too involved for me these days, used to love playing them though.
I think this is why it took me so long to beat the beta. I just couldn't get into it.
It feels almost like Duke Nukem for me. I was initially excited for the game, but it has been so long that my interest has faded. Then I got the beta invite and the game just didn't really do anything for me. I am hoping the final product doesn't turn out to be the same way, but so far even the loot is boring to me.
Say it aint so Joe! :p
It's nice that they kept the same font type. I love that series. So many hours lost trying to get back armor and items from my dead body.
