I've been using my SGS2 since AT&T launched it (not the skyrocket), and the only issue I ever ran in to was when I flashed to 2.3.6. Battery life was HORRIBLE. Flashed to CM9 and I couldn't be happier.
I'm just waiting on AT&T to release their official ICS so I can go back to TouchWiz. I'm one of the few who miss it :( That and Swype. I need my Swype!
Sprint has finally gotten around to shipping my 4G LTE Evo. I'll be testing it for a about a week and decide if I want to keep it.
I have replaced 2 iPhone 4s phones. The first one had stability issues with applications/data/GPS. Second one would overheat and stop working. Third one has been perfectly fine thus far.
I'm pretty sure I just installed the Swype beta from beta.swype.com on a CM9 phone and it worked. Have you given it a shot?Quote:

I was thinking about trying an iPhone when the new ones come out. I use GMail and Google Voice a lot. I already know that GV won't be as integrated on an iOS device, but what makes GMail so much better on Android than iOS?Quote:

That being said I do most of my email on my iPad these days. It's less than perfect, but it gets the job done for me. Shame that google is absolutely incompetent at writing iOS apps (see the official GMail app that got pulled after less than a day and clearly didn't get tested by anyone at Google for even one second before it got submitted to the App Store).
edit: turns out they re-released the GMail app, but it's still pretty bad. Lack of push notifications makes it basically useless, and because it uses UIWebView instead of native code, a lot of stuff is kind of klutzy.
Here's a long rant on why GMail is bad on iOS. It's not as awful as the guy makes it out to be, but it's still inferior to its Android counterpart by a long stretch. I haven't used GMail on an Android tablet so I can't comment on that.

I agree with using either or of the available solutions. I use Gmail account as my email with 15 minute polling. I also turn off the archive instead of delete option. For contacts/calendar I use my google account in exchange mode. So email via gmail config and exchange config for cal/contacts. It's a nice medium.Quote:

As for the EVO 4G LTE, it is going back. The data network sucks on Sprint and I found a hardware bug with the phone. If power is plugged in and you connect your headphone port to an aux port on a car it produces bad static. Tested on 3 devices and 2 cars. Nice device otherwise.
I like what I see when I used my Android powered devices - Galaxy 5830 and Galaxy Tab 7.7 - so much so that I've just gotten another Android phone, the newly launched Galaxy S III Pebble Blue with ICS. Man, I dunno if I'm an Android man, or merely a Samsung fanboy...:o
It looks like a nice phone but don't drop it :p. Every drop test I have seen has caused a fair amount of damage. Especially when you nail that screen in any way.Quote:

I have officially confirmed the following:
The Sprint network isn't as bad as I originally thought. In fact the HTC 4G LTE Evo is the bane of my recent testing with Android. Went through the the same scenario with a Sprint LTE Evo and a Sprint iPhone 4s and the iPhone was better for data and voice coverage in the same area.
In the same test my iPhone 4s on ATT was perfect for calls with full bars of coverage but terrible with data. My data network connection kept dropping and I wouldn't get much more then 200kbps when it did connect.
In regular usage the Sprint Data network is slower then ATT but in this scenario it was more reliable.
BTW, this is around San Jose International Airport Area in California if anyone is interested to know.

I'm probably going to get a Nexus 7 when it comes out, even if only for dev purposes.
A lot of people I know have Android phones now, but no one seems to really like them. They like a particular app, but find the OS itself confusing. My wife has an Android phone now. Gmai and Maps are good, everything else is kind of horrendous. The UI is just so inconsistent between apps and between devices that it's kind of a nightmare. I'm not even sure that it's appropriate to call Android an OS. It's more like a framework that each handset manufacturer uses to create their own OS. The only thing really portable between versions and devices is your Google Account.
I can't really imagine ever using a version of Android that isn't the plain vanilla Google version, and even then it has problems. From what I've seen, Jellybean on the Nexus 7 seems to be a step in the right direction, but I'll have to get it in my hands to see.
I don't know what applications you're using but I don't have that problem with any of the ones I use nor any issues with Android itself. I've used vanilla Android, Sense and Touchwiz and had no problems with any of them either, there are some variances in the skins but even those with heavy modifications are still the same underneath and look the same, I think it's nonsense to call it a different OS. I find Android highly customisable and have it running as I want it, the skin is slightly customised but it's not that different to the vanilla interface.
Yes I'm a tech person but my Mum doesn't have problems either and she uses the SE Timescape skin (a heavily modified one) on her phone and vanilla Android on her tablet. I know a lot more people with Android phones now than IOS and most are pleased with them, the perception of Android seems to be it's hard to use and IOS is easy but I find that it's just perception as people with IOS for the first time don't find it as easy as claimed.
As for me I really like my Android phone which is a Samsung Galaxy Note, there's a few features I miss from the Maemo OS on my N900 but on the whole it's a very good phone. The 5.3in Super AMOLED 1280x800 screen is beautiful, the phone is fast, the camera is very good and it has expandable storage which seems to be getting increasingly rare now.

Ugh. I can't stand Sense or Touchwiz. Even worse is the bloatware installed. AT&T pre-installs like 20 [cr]apps for you.
I have become a huge fan of Android (ICS) on tablets. I have it on my touchpad. It feels like a proper tablet OS. I hate iOS in tablet form. I can't really explain why, it just feels like it's wrong. I've used an iPad, an iPad2 that friends and family have owned. I've used a Kindle Fire that my sister owns, none of them feel like proper tablets.
The only two OS's I like on the tablet format are both on one tablet for me: WebOS and Android. Honestly I still think that WebOS is the most cohesive solution for a multitasking mobile OS, but since it's dead, ICS in tablet phone is the next best thing. Jelly bean simply speeds it up and cleans it up, but doesn't radically change ICS.
As a counterpoint: I don't find Android to be a super phone OS. Again, not sure why that is.
I have a Motorola Xoom with ICS, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Honeycomb, and 2 new 3rd gen iPads. I also use a HTC Thunderbolt phone.
The iPads decimate Android IMO. Not even in the same ballpark. The iPads are so fast, scroll so smoothly, so easy to use, simply just work, have the best screen, much faster and easier to multitask with, etc.
idk, I find them so hugely superior that those Android tablets have been relegated to toys for my kids. Speed of the UI alone is enough to make me switch. That Galaxy Tab feels like a slow and clumsy brick compared to my iPad.
My next phone will most likely be iPhone5 when it comes out. I have to jump through hoops each morning just to get my TBolt to connect via Bluetooth to my headunit. If I want to change any settings such as disable 4G for battery life, half the time it locks up. I used to love it but after spending more time with iOS, iOS is just far superior IMO.
I got my wife S3 and it's awesome! It actually is bit TOO thin if you ask me... and it's so smooth (exterior wise) that it won't stand if you lean it against something w/o a stand of some kind... but UI is great and smooth... dual-core 1.5 GHz and 2GB memory will do that for ya. :D
