The Official NFL Thread

After having watched both Jacksonville games this season, I'm starting to realize that I've grown to really like them in recent years. I always like a team with a good, hard hitting defense and a strong running game. I've always liked Fred Taylor when he's healthy, and I loved Greg Jones in college at FSU (though he's out for the season this year). I also loved Matt Jones as a QB at Arkansas, and I was thinking he would be the steal of the draft when he came out long before the news of his freakish 40 time at the combine came out. I also like their coach a lot, and there is something about their receiving corp that I like (probably that they're all freaking giants).

I've never liked Leftwich, though, even going back to college. I did see an interesting stat in this game earlier: his TD to INT ratio in each of his seasons has been something like 14-15, 15-10, and 15-6. Good improvement year over year.

So, for me, this year it is pretty much coming down to Baltimore being the team I follow every year, CLeveland being my pick for surprise team of the year (that one's not working out too well), and Jacksonville being the team I really like and want to watch every week. I'm also pulling for San Fran this year for some reason, I think it's because I like Alex Smith.

Forgot to mention, holy crap, they held Pittsburgh without a single rushing first down. That's a pretty salty freaking D.

Hey, at least I have some reasons, I'm not just jumping on because they started 2-0. I still don't like the Falcons too much, for instance, even though I usually love any team that runs as well as they do, and I do like some of their defensive players a lot. I haven't talked about the Jags too much on here, since it's a video game forum first and foremost, but a lot of my friends know I've been talking about all the different things I like about them for a few years now.

I remember watching Matt Jones basically singlehandedly beat Texas when he was in school at Arkansas, and I remember Greg Jones having probably the most devastating hit I've ever seen an RB deliver (I think it was against North Carolina, but I'm not totally sure about that). I watched a year in review thing about the Jags a few years ago and started to really like the head coach after I saw that. He was a good LB in the NFL, too; heck, he made the pro bowl at least one year in Minnesota.

Everybody has little things they like about a bunch of different teams, I'm just now starting to notice that there are a LOT of things I like about the Jags. Probably because I've actually seen both of their games; we don't get many Florida teams on TV here in Texas, so I haven't had much opportunity to watch them before. This year, they played against Dallas, so we got it, and then on MNF, so of course I saw that. It's a little different actually seeing them on the field, and all those components together, than when I just had a bunch of things about them in the back of my mind.

Theyve been good since '96 when they came around give or take a few years.

Id wager that they have the best all time win-loss percentage out of all football franchises.

as much as I (and most if not all) Broncos fans want this, it is better for him to sit out at least half the season and "learn." Plummer needs to quit bein a frikkin bonehead like he used to be and start playin like he did last season, if he doesnt I dont think he will be the starter by the end of this season.

Basically, you mean he needs to play more like last season, and less like every other season that he's ever played football in his life? :D

I don't get the Raidahs at all. They have enough quality players, you'd think they could at least compete...

Obviously they need a QB. How about Seneca Wallace for Derrick Burgess? :D

It would help if they had hired a coach and offensive coordinator with any experience at all in the last decade (not exactly sure if they were out of coaching for 10 years, but it's close). Wasn't the OC hired while working on a farm in Indiana or something?

Listening to ESPN Radio. Just heard that it was a Bed and Breakfast, not a farm. Of course, coming back to this thread I see that I've already been beat to the fact finding by vrao81.

Also, apparently a reporter asked Art Shell if it was still wise to be doing seven step drops with as often as his QBs are getting sacked. He said that they only did a seven step drop 2 or 3 times during the whole game, but the reporter thought that sounded a little wrong. Few steps down the research chain later, it is found out that there were 13 seven step drops by the Raiders in the Baltimore game.

The OC was running a bed and breakfast inn in Idaho I believe, before returning to football!
And oh wow the Panthers keep getting pwned..a must win game against the Bucs is coming up...if we lose..so much for the playoffs/superbowl this year

Maybe in the game plan there was supposed to be only a few, but in the game it ended up happening differently than what Art wanted? maybe..

Well, the interview was after the game was over, so he would know how many he ended up calling. I suppose the quarterback could have just randomly done 7 steps on plays that he wasn't, so they only called 2 or 3 but player error resulted in more, but that is highly, HIGHLY doubtful. Strange little situation.

Yeah, I dont understand why Fox called that play toward the end of the game..then again I'm not a coach. The Panther's had that game.
