You should really consider an A64 Socket 939 proc/mobo and R420/NV40.......30+k for 01 and 15k for 03, here I come! :p :D Nothing like super fast proc and VC to breaking new ground/score......no more tweaking for me!:D OK, maybe a lil....:DQuote:

here's what gets me though: i'm going to buy a 754 nforce3 250 mobo and an X800XT (if it's the fastest, if not then a 6800U) in June, that should give me a fast enough setup until august or september, when i'll build my new comp. for college based on 939/FX... but will i be able to use the X800XT in that or will i have to buy ANOTHER new video card after only two months because of PCI-Express?Quote:

I think you'll probably see at least a year of transition to PCI-Express where you will still find comparable boards with either PCI-E or AGP. It's hard to say, it'd be nice if some of these mobo makers leaked a little more about their upcoming boards. I don't plan on doing a cpu/mobo upgrade until I can get 939, and can make an educated mobo selection, but will do the video as soon as the dust clears and I can pick the right card. If 939 takes too long to become widely available, I might be in the same shoes you are in. Also, although I doubt there will be a difference in the first releases, it's yet to be shown whether the first-gen PCI-E cards will offer any performance gains over AGP. My, oh my, it's gotten really quiet here as of late. Guess everyone's waiting to buy the next gen cards before running benchmarks again. ;) :D BTW, guys, can you tell me the real-world benefits of PCI-Exp? I heard it allows 2 way communication between CPU and GPU (I think), so, what does this translate to?:confused:
well i could go for 7600 2k3, but i'm not really in position to gain a spot on the team and it would requrie a video card bios flash, a reformat, and setting up my good cooling again... or i could just wait until i get a new card and really put up some happy numbers :)Quote:

Hey guys, I am thinking about coming out of retirement cause these new cards got me so excited. What do you guys think I should pick up for a MB and CPU? I am seriously thinking about switching to AMD :eek:
buying right now or waiting for x800? if you wait, i'm thinking A64 3400 and Shuttle AN51R will be the combo to beat.... if you can wait for 939 then that will obviously be faster. or if you want to have to buy new RAM too you could go for an FX53 940 and an Asus SK8V with some Registered CH5. that would definately be fast as i've seen an FX53 at 3.3 ghz now.Quote:

I'm thinking the 800XT and I don't really want to mess around with an AMD FX. I think the A64 3400 is looking really sweet to me. Thing is I am going to have to lay some serious cash out to retool my cooling to for AMD. I should be able to use my stuff on the VC without problems though.
sounds like you should be set for the NF3 250 then. i just wouldn't get a 150 now because you'll only have to half as many mods on the 250, and being limited to 1.7v on the CPU right now sucks.Quote:

What kind of cooling do you have? I thought you sold off your wcing stuff -- I know alot of it can be converted for A64 use.
I still have both of my swiftech waterblocks, a pump, rad and res. I have enough to run 1 loop, but would end up picking up another pump and rad so I could run 2 loops like before. I would also need to pick up another meanwell.
But like I said, none of those blocks would work on an AMD:(

All this talk of upgrading's got me excited too, I'm waiting for Socket 939, x800XT/6800U and PCI-Express to hit the scene before making a move. No FX53 for me coz of the ram - darn fricking expensive!:eek: - but I have seen a pic of a mobo with AGP, PCI-Exp (16x), etc :

No problem updating my score. About AGP vs PCI-Express, I would think its still vidcard dependent as, if my research is anywhere near correct, even the newer 420 and 6800's can't even exploit 8x yet. So I'd think we're at least one more generation away from needing PCI-Express vidcard-wise.Quote:
