It's dissapointing that no one shares what I think existence really is...the only closest one being the bubble encapsulated theory.

Have you ever realized that everything is related to everything? By far, all I've seen are theories that stem from the principle that we humans are not related to our surroundings, and the universe, on the other end. Like, why in hell are we on top of the foodchain anyway? It's indefinite relativity.

My theory would be that the universe is actually just a quark. A cell perhaps. Name it what you will. Atom, electron, compound...etc. Try imagine that we are actually part of the ingredients that make up a...drop of semen. (dude im sorry i cant think of anything else hehe) im sure there are millions of organisms and substances that entirely make up semen.

So we are part of something infinitely bigger, which is itself part of something bigger than itself.

Better yet, simply, just imagine that we humans are the quarks that make up an electron.

So to regress, assuming you're indestructible and immortal/invincible, travel to the end of the universe, and you get pulled into the next "universe" so fast that you don't realize it. What do you think would happen if an electron travelled out of its boundaries?

But, to somewhat digress, such a travel would be physics-impossible, the very law of existence, not of composition which I would think is governed by chemistry.

It's possible. I don't like to think that subatomic particles could be as un-organized as our universe is, though. According to our current theories (I think), *every* electron is the same, every proton is the same, etc. It's possible that we're just part of some subatomic particle of another universe, but it just doesn't make sense to my mind, so I choose to pretty much disregard the possibility. It may also be possible that our universe is just some living organism that we don't understand -- maybe we're some virus/cure or something, and that's why we're on top of the food chain. Anyway, until we actually do succeed in leaving this universe, anyone can really make up any theory they want, and nobody can truly disprove it. :)

I wouldn't call that time travel, I would just call that altering the rate of passage of time. Time travel implies the ability to jump around. Einstein's relativity explicitly forbids that.

And though relativity is "just" a theory, it is one of the stronger ones we have. For it to be that wrong would be pretty huge. It has been that thoroughly tested. Nevertheless, it is known to be incomplete in that it doesn't take into account quantum mechanics. So if anything holds the key to time travel, its quantum mechanics. I doubt, however, that when quantum mechanics is extended to encompass relativy it will change the underlying principles of relativy because it is so well tested.

Is the "Universe" expanding or is space expanding. And if space (Empty stuff betwen you and your monitor)was exspanding, that would mean all the atoms that make me are shooting away from one another right? And sombody looking at me from somewhere outside the "Universe"
would see me growing realy fast?

I know to, that some people say empty space is not empty. In that case that would mean particals are coming into the "Universe" and expanding it? Im I making sense or am I missing somthing.

and us humans and earth are the plus and minus electrons that circle the sun as a regular atom and its molecules circle it.

all this universe talk makes me think about the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and how it proves that the population of the universe is 0

inhabited planets(or space) = finite since not every planet is inhabited

I would say that it might be possible, but it seems very unlikely at this point. I still wouldn't completely rule it out, though.

Remember that before Einstein, people thought time moved at the same rate for everyone and they didn't doubt it for a minute. But now it is common knowledge that time can slow down and speed up for you depending on such things as how fast you are going.

I was thinking that we mostly view or define our universe in physical terms. And as such are missing a large part of the puzzle. I like the GiGNiC theory of space-time being warped, since this sounds sensible enough. Commie mentions dimensions as an integral part of the makeup of our universe. And since there are dimensions beyond our 4, we have only really just scratched the surface here (Er string theory?). The universe as an entity or virus or an oscillating superconglomerate are really interesting theories too.

But they fail to answer my question. What happens when we leave our physical plane ie death. Will we ever conquer death? If we ever discover that other planes of reality exist beyond our own (not necessarily within our own universe) will that then mean we can travel between our own plane of existance to others? Maybe even the plane we transcend to after death? I know it sounds radical. But what would happen if we discovered the quintessential plane we go to after passing on. Or is death a natural vehicle from one plane of existance to another? Are we just all hapless travellers with no control over our next destination? And is the universe just another stopover in our unending journey to other planes of reality?

I have an image in my mind that the universe is just like a gigantic mandelbrot set, except in unlimited vectors and planes. It stretches infinitely horizontally in space/time dimensions (or better put in hu flung dung's warped time/space bubble that encases our physical plane; universe), and infinitely vertically as in alternate realities of itself, mirror universes if you will - one end of the spectrum containing very similar realities while the other, radically different. And on the Z axis a representation of dimensions beyond the physical plane we experience, ie Commie's interpretation of our universe suspended in a 5th dimension that is itself surrounded by other dimensions, some intercepting each other, yet not entirely tangible. As is the case of our 4 dimensional universe not physically connected to a 5th dimension. And at the same time all this being infinite as in Kaizers version of a relationship between each entity from an atom in itself being a universe unto itself. And our universe being but a mere molecule to another super-universe.

It really boggles the mind to think all this. And only illustrates our insignificance in the universe. I'll tell you one thing I sure as hell dont think that at the end of the universe, is a white universe. As in an episode I vaguely remember from Danger Mouse. But who the heck really knows eh?!

no one knows for sure... i believe that all times exist at any given moment so it would be like parallel universes.

Just on a completely unrelated front, Nostradamus predicts the tampering of time by humans in his last chapter of quatraines of the history of man. After this time it is said that history is altered and lost forever, with mans incessant tampering shortly after its discovery. He also speaks of the great child genius who unravels most of the mysteries of time travel, he is also predicted not only to invent time travel but develop breakthroughs in AI, which quickly accelerates our learning with the aid of quantum computers and ushers in a new age of space travel. This is all said to take place in the 1st half of the 21st century. Its all baloney to me but makes for interesting reading.

Nostradamos (or however u spell it) was a pretty smart man. He made many predictions that can be interperated to just about anything you want to. None of his predictions have ever come true yet, so I wouldn't bother reading him.

As for time travel, I have a question about time slowing down as one approaches the speed of light. Our galaxy is said to be moving away from the other galaxies (big bang theory). Our solar system also moves inside our galaxy, and we move around the sun. All of these being true, our earth is constantly in extreme motion. So, that being the case, how do we know what rest is? Assume that Einstien's theory is correct. Does that mean that time for us has been drastically slowed down because our galaxy is in constant motion? We could very possibly be moving at the speed of light, relative to another galaxy.

However, I could be wrong...

I believe the whole idea of time travel is flawed, because it assumes time is quantifiable. What we call time is mearly a measure of the number of times an ammonia molecule vibrates- quantum mechanical vibrations. This has nothing to do with time in a more anthropological meaning. Granted, during space shuttle missions clocks are different from those based on earth, but does this "prove" time travel is possible or does it prove that ammonia vibrates faster without gravity. I wonder what Ctesibius would think about the idea of time travel?

My boss at work was trying to explain how, for example, a 2 dimensional thing can't understand a 3 dimensional thing. his example was that you can unfold a simple box into a line and vis-versa, then you can unfold a cube into a box; similar to unfolding a 3 dimensional object (hypothetically speaking) into a 2 dimensional object then unfolding again into a 1 dimensional object. if this pattern is consistent, then a 3rd dimensional thing could fold into a 4th dimensional thing, unimaginable to a 3rd dimensional human. eh, hope thats kinda clear, my boss did a good job of explaining it to me with a drawing :p .

well anyways, then he was saying how some scientist believe that there are like 20 dimensions or something. when it comes to trying to understand the universe, i dont even know where to begin, theres so many possibilities its crazy.

We use all kinds of things as clocks. Anything that cycles regularly at a fixed rate can be used.
