well when i was A64/9800 i ran:

now i'm finding it's better to run:

but i'm still playing with it, of course...
i think the best order depends on where the bottleneck is in your system. If it's a CPU bottleneck, it's better to run DL first, if it's a GPU bottleneck, it's better to run LL first.
where do i get those forsage drivers???

Yeah, it just looks like those guys are letting the bottleneck be the bottleneck and getting their first run boost off their strength.
I was thinking too, maybe run with your EB's, another 512MB will give you some extra b/w. I did that (512 to 1 GB) when I had to drop to 5:4 after 265 MHz. I realize my platform wants more b/w then yours, but I wouldn't discount the A64's need completely. Look at the Hexus s939 review. Sure looks like A64 can use extra b/w in their tests.

edit: those d/c gains could also be because even though the cpu can use more b/w, the s/c controller is saturated, meaning more RAM doesn't equal more b/w because you are bottlenecked by the controller, but in d/c you get two controllers to saturate. Don't know, but I guess I will if more RAM doesn't give you anything.

Have you tried disabling 2T? (or whatever that is, I glanced at some thread that mentioned it, don't remember exactly what it does)
Maybe surround your XT (jealousy) with some high speed fans while you bench?

I can't remember if it was in the AN50R bios, it is in some other mobos.

Damn! I can believe it, I've stared at a few walls close-up myself. Gets frustrating as hell I know. You are going to get there though. Cool your gpu better and get it going! 87 points can be made up with not too big of a v/c bump I'd think.
Did you get the command rate down, different order, Diagnostic Startup (quick 'n' ez way to kill services) and killed explorer, more RAM, RAM flushes, chicken bones? All/none of the above?

meaning if i got 282fps (which i did before) i'd break 30k

That's painful. And I'm all out of ideas. I've had the same thing happen with really aggressive, hairy edge RAM settings and an o/c'ed agp bus. Tweaking the RAM a hair or bumping the bus down helped me, but when I was stuck like that DH would crap out as often as Nat did. I know you can't do anything with the bus, but maybe you have some more subtle RAM settings to play with? Something like idle time, refresh rate, spread spectrum?
Can your CPU go any higher? (vcore mod and whatnot)
i haven't done the pencil mod, do you have a link?
i can try relaxing the ram timings just for nature, that might help.

Well said. Keep your meter handy bud, you have no way of knowing how much the pencil marks are going to change the voltage without one. Probably better off just popping VR's on there IMHO.Quote:

it might work with the XT anyway but i haven't even begun to look into it in detail yet so don't worry there. I upped my RAM voltage to my comfortable limit (3.25v) on my A64 but i'm about 6mhz short of having the speed i'd need to make up for running the 9x multi.
Wow you are going through some gyrations to get there. FYI, I'm certain the mod would work the same on an XT. All indications are that the new boards are all based on the 9800XT pcb. It's just that lack of control using a pencil mark I don't like. It's probably safer then soldering if you aren't comfortable, but you would want to check before and after resistance just so you can be sure you didn't provide too good of a current path and over-volt your gpu. There is over current protection, but it wouldn't be instantanious and wouldn't be able to shut down in time to save the gpu if you kicked like 2V it's way on power up.Quote:
