Sounds like poor code planning.
It's been crashing a lot for me today, not sure if it is due to the server, or to the heavy load at minecraft.net, or what.
I wouldn't mind a new map just to clear up some of the glitchy stuff (the minecarts), the experimental stuff (the TNT holes all over the place that make it hard to walk around, random above-ground lava placement), the badly designed stuff (roads to nowhere), etc.
I wish we could just take the best parts and move that to a new map, because there is some good stuff in our map.
In general, maybe we should start building more collaboratively, because really that's about all multiplayer seems to have going for it right now.
James: I just got the update and can no longer connect to the server. Says I have an "outdated client". :p
Minecraft is down right now. He is probably updating the game to the new content.
Oh BTW, I absolutely love the Fuuian castle!
I saw the update files come in and got logged into minecraft, this error was after I tried connecting to the multiplayer server.
Ahh yup, update is active. James will need to update the server.
OK, I'll get to updating the server side soon. Sorry about the downtime.
Funtimes, I can't login after stopping the server, downloading the new minecraft_server.jar and restarting the server.
*Edit 2: Restarted it twice. now it seems to be working.
I seem to crash constantly with Java errors ever since the last Java update. Oh well it is just my crap computer, not my main PC.
Ghasts are ****ing scary. :O
Totally behind the curve, but I found the bottom of the world in my singleplayer map. Woohoo, first times!
Finally finished the base skyscraper.
Now to add in things like benches, sitting areas, etc. to make it feel more usable.
Shot of the building at night.

Woe be the man who gets caught outside at night these days. The hugely increased mob amounts not only make it much more dangerous, they make recovering your stuff much more dangerous.
I don't know why, when I was trying to dig out a larger area in my little house cave for my hellgate, I thought "oh well, this will just be a second before I fill that hole back in" when I accidentally pushed through the top of the mountain. I was able to dig exactly ONE more dirt square before the arrows started to hit me and knock me away from the hole, ultimately taking me out since I had no ranged attack and he had a pretty good little sniper hole. When I went back to get my stuff, I found a skeleton and a zombie basically hanging out in my living room, so I knew this would be a tough fight, with me possibly dying again before I cleared them out.
Then the creeper came. Heard it first; turned to see it right before it blew up right over my storage chest with all the diamonds, iron, etc. I had in it; plus, the entire area was more of a staging ground for a mine than an actual castle area, so it was pretty small. The explosion took out the entire front glass wall in addition to the chest and crafting table. Fortunately for me, the explosion finished off everything else in there so when I managed to get back it was fairly clear, and I was able to use positioning on the next mobs that showed up which allowed me to fill in the holes in the wall before they got through. Secured the area, placed the last two pieces of lava to turn into obsidian for the hellgate, lit it up, then signed off for the night. Plan on making my first trip in tonight, probably.
Ganking my water/lava tower idea, eh? :D
Looks good once, looks good always. :P
Seriously though, I knew I would need something for light in the center of the building, it's too large for the torches around the outside to properly light the middle.
I haven't played single player since the update, guess I should do that.
IMO he went too far with the mobs. At night 20+ mobs instantly pop up around your place. That would be okay if killing them had some effect on the next night, but it doesn't. I killed all the surrounding mobs thinking that it would thin them for the next night, but nope. It makes it so you can't do anything at all at night. Either mine or just afk when the sun goes down.
That's kind of the point of what he's trying to do though, I think. I used to have no fear whatsoever of wandering around outside at night. Really, I used to have no fear doing anything, since you could see enemies coming in the vast majority of cave systems so I only really worried about skeletons and their range. Now enemies even spawn in deep mines if there are torches around.
If all else fails just make a moat around whatever you're building. A 1 width empty trench alone will stop most things from getting to you; just have to worry about them timing a jump perfectly to get over it.
I'm fine with the increased mob activity but I'm not fine with the SKELETONS RIDING ON THE BACKS OF SPIDERS. Seriously, no. NO!
So I take it this is all in Single player?
Man I wish SMP was fixed. Pretty bummed that the slip doesn't work in mp. :(
Apparently they were doing it earlier, due to some kind of bug. He made it more consistent, and now it's a feature. lol
Last night I dug a pit and then built a tower to the top of the sky where I proceeded to get stuck in the 'ceiling' (building a skydiving ride of sorts). I seem to be permanently stuck there. If an admin is going to be on later, let me know. I've got a nice view but I do miss moving around and being able to do things :)
