Hey guys, I'm actually working on a third rig that I can run with no monitors and peripherals JUST for folding. I'm not sure of the Ghz, but it's better than nothing:)
I'll keep ya posted;)
vertices seems to have produced his first thousand points in about the same time you produced your last thousand. He seems mostly like to be the second one to reach the 3K plateau; no offense KaoTiK.Quote:

Also Thermo you must be pleased; you wanted to see 80 cpus by the end of the month or was it year and we did it by the 7th :D:D:D. No reason for me not to believe we can have 200+ active cpu's by years end. Hopefully by next week we can start showing up in the green on the ExtremeOCing database for 3K+ daily point production.
How about a custom avatar for 5K points?Quote:

Yep, just saw that we have 81 now and there are still 20+ days left in the month. Perhaps we should shoot for 100 chips by the end of the month ;)
Looks like we will hit the 500th place mark on or before the 20th. Lets find some more CPU’s and see if we can get there by the 17th:eek:
custom avatars -- great idea saps! hopefully there'll be more than one prize. :D
some way to have rankings would be cool, too -- for ex, 0-1000 is a sharky folder, 1000-2500 is a sharky extreme folder, 2500-5000 is a sharky elite folder, and so on. :) 5000+ earns the rank of sharky physician folder, sharky folding god, etc. :D
Yeah without the avatar contest the Folding Team is already growing fast but the contest serves sort of like jet fuel on an inferno. Its likely only one avatar will be given out on Christmas however.
How will the winner be determined?Quote:

Lottery; everyone who qualifies will have a certain amount of ticket[s] with their name and I will draw one. I will record the whole event and post the video link so there's no crying from the losers. What remains to be determined is what our system/ratio for ticket allotment will be. Don't ask I don't know yet; Cat will tell me and I'll tell you
what about rankings? would that be likely to happen? i was thinking of something over on the left, like under the location or something (if there are any data fields left).
There is no reason why there couldn’t be some sort of folding guild with ranks and such. All we need is to come up with a name and decide what kind of ranks and levels to use. Then we can put a little web page up with the listings.
sorry to post this in this thread, but...
serotone, clean out your PM box.
to keep it on-topic...if we're gonna have custom avatars, maybe it should be something like once you hit 5000 (or whatever) points, then you can choose to use a standard "sharky folding" avatar designed by sapasion, catalyst, or whoever. i don't think that any number of folding points deserves the same award as 5000 posts. SOMEthing would be nice, though.
That's actually a very good idea.Quote:

Consider that one Saps/Cat. :D
more like 10,000, the way Thermo's racking up points. :p
The contest winner will get to pick his/her own avatar. No other options exist. We will never have the option of get XXXXX Folding Points and earn a custom avatar. This is a special contest.
How about you have 2nd and 3rd place and add like 1,000 and 500 posts, respectivley, to the winner's post count?Quote:

I just saw this thread for the first time. I'm in.
i agree, which is why i think a special designation in the user info area would be so cool. it would add a little "extra" for team members without being an avatar, and it would also be even more advertising for the team. i for one didn't even notice the thread until at least page 35 or whatever, and many people (such as brahma) are still just noticing it even now. links can work for that, but some people have the option to view sigs turned off. if it were in the user area, it would show up wherever we posted. :)Quote:

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah. I just broke the 20GHz mark. That avatar will be mine yet! :D
here's a thought...why not put up an announcement about the folding team. like the ones where new moderators are announced. it could let more people know and get more people to join. how about it?
I've suggested that already, but at that time, saps was still talking to catalyst about the team and officiality. Any new word saps? Are we the official sharkyextreme team? :confused:Quote:

oops...must have missed it! my bad. and i think we can assume that we are official now...especially since we seem to have gotten the go-ahead on the custom avatar competition.Quote:

An interesting thing happened to me today I overstressed by cpu and caused it to drop a WU I was 84% done with. I was enraged at myself, but when I went to the log file it said results sent. Sure enough about 30 minutes later my score had gone up 45 points 84% of the 53 point WU I was working on. So I basically got credit for the percentage of the work I did without completing the whole WU.
This may or may not occur depending on Cat's decision. For now all we have are sig links. Those have been rather effective thus far IMO. Word of mouth seems to be catching on though as every day new members are emerging with stats on our Stanford page. One thing I can and will do is drop and thread in the CPU/OC forum our single largest forum on the topic of the Great Crusader. The OC Crusaders are such an established concept within SF. Furthermore, there is no more noble a cause than the crusade against protein misfolding. I won't publish this thread until Sunday the 9th. However, when I do I'm expecting; between increased awareness of the Folding Team, knowledge of the contest itself, and humbly the small bit of influence I have within SF; to see the Folding Team double in size and cpu's this next week.Quote:

Yes we're official per se in that Cat is allowing us to bear the Moniker of Sharky Forums Folding Team. However, I am intentionally leaving the word Official off of any doings with our group.Quote:

Its nice to see you guys sharing my enthusiasm for this project. Your suggestions are very much appreciated. Please do understand however, that I am limited in the sense that I must do as I am allowed by Catalyst. He in turn is accountable to another himself. Decisions regarding third party distributing computing can be slow in coming and may not always please some of us.
Conquer On
HERE's a interesting link that shows the teams progress and projection.
